Subject: Can Poser content be used in DAZ

kenmo ( ) posted Mon, 04 July 2011 at 8:24 AM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 10:34 AM

I just downloaded the free version of DAZ Studio and all I can say is WOW...

I know the Poser content from DAZ can be used in DAZ Studio as well as Poser. But can I use Poser content from elsewhere in DAZ Studio? Or are the formats complete compatible between Poser & DAZ?

Thanks kindly....

Yes, in most cases you can...I have purchased many items made for Poser, specifically for use in DS3 without any problems.

Most vendors will state quite clearly their products DO NOT WORK IN DAZ..so, I never bother with those. Where vendors say NOT TESTED IN DAZ.....I have purchased those without problem too.

If you are unsure if something will work or not simply contact the Vendor before you purchase.  They are very reasonable people and will give you the information you require.

Poser dynamic hair and clothing, Poser shaders, and Python scripts will not work in DS, but most Poser items will.  They will usually require some adjustments to material settings to look their best.  If you are wondering about particular items, you can usually get a quick answer on the DAZ forums.

I have a posable laptop in the Marketplace that works in Poser and DAZ but DAZ does not have a movie material node (as far as I know) that will allow the laptop screen to play movies. So you have to use the included image sequence in the package.

Has anyone used TerraDome in DS?

DS does not load Poser specular maps so that has to be done manually which unfortunetly means browsing into the runtime "texture" folder.

Some content creators have no logical or consistant folder naming convention so this can be very frustrating when trying to find the missing textures.

Also the "surface" settings between DS and Poser are different. So manual adjustment is often required to get the Poser textures to look good in a DS render.

Check DAZ Studio Freepository at Daz's own forum for useful scripts that can make life easier.

If you click on an existing mapped value and choose Browse the file dialogue will open in the folder with the texture, which should tell you where to look for any extra maps (specular, displacement etc.).

Goood tip. Thanks.
