I had a problem like that and it turned out to be a memory issue. I had too many figures and textures in my frame for my machine to manage. I ran some of the old pz3 files on my new machine with 24 gig of ram and it cleared up. Not sure if that's what yours is doing though.

Jeez, I just have 4GB of ram, and a core two duo processor... But I have not had that issue. So, I can be no help other than say that I don't think it's a memory issue. It may be a problem with the polys on the model itself.
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
I had a similar problem in the past and they only showed up when I rendered in different settings. My solution was to adjust the lighting a little by moving the light position, and it went away. To this day I have no idea what was going on.
My guess is that the file I was using some how became corrupt and caused the problem. I'm saying that because I think I opened a new window and used a new load of the model and the texture and the problem didn't occur with the new load of the model.
