Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
Also, I have Poser Pro 2012 SR1 candidate - not yet released. Nyah nyah.

Oops...Windows 7 I meant. Hit the wrong number lol.
I loaded Victoria 4.2 a few times, once into runtime, another time into characters, but for some reason its not generating a DAZ people folder. Is Victoria 4.2 an update or something? I think in the past I loaded Vickie 3 earlier and it made the Daz people folder.
You dont' install in either of those.
You install in the folder that contains runtime.
A runtime is always wrapped by a folder with a unique name, just above it.
For example, my personal V4 content is kept in something like:
c:/Users/Ted/Desktop/PoserStuff/V4/Runtime
I do not install in there - I install in
c:/Users/Ted/Desktop/PoserStuff/V4
When I add that to Poser, that is the path - it ends with V4, not V4/Runtime.
The installer expects to add the rest on its own.

program files x86/smith micro/poser 8
The folder that contains the runtime.
The installer will add the rest. There are many files, and they do not just go in characters. There are pose, material, etc.

I forgot to tell you, though, that if you have UAC on, you cannot install there at all.
Windows 7 thinks all installers trying to add stuff to program files are actually viruses.

Did you notice that mine is not in program files. This is for a reason.

hmmm.. I'm not sure if I have UAC on or not. To be honest, I don't even know what UAC is lol. (Newbie alert!) I'll try installing it to the file you mentioned. If all else fails maybe I'll do the other path you listed.
c:/Users/Bob/Desktop/PoserStuff/V4
I'll experiment. Hopefully I won't screw anything up. I do think the stuff will load though, as I have been able to load a few things--dumb luck I guess.
I think poser hates me. I had no luck either way. I thought I was doing fine installing it initially--even got she freak to install--but once I checked poser it wasn't there. I did get a message saying windows firewall stopped some stuff from loading, so maybe that was the problem. I tried using the other option
c:/Users/Bob/Desktop/PoserStuff/V4
it did load, but again when I checked it it wasn't there.
I think i'm going to remove poser, than reinstall it entirely. Maybe if I start from scratch I'll have more luck.
The DAZ installer checks if there is a Poser.exe in that directory, IIRC. This was nessesary for Vicky's morphs to work in Poser 6, but they did not create a new installer as it seems. Copy Poser.exe in your new V4 directory and it should work. (all IIRC)

just a little note.................. you do not need a 'poser.exe' file anywhere to get the installers to work.
just use 'daz studio' as the target app in the dropdown menu on the splash screens.
then you can install anywhere. just point the installer to the folder you want to instal too. ie 'any drive' :users:'poser stuff':V4.
the only proviso being that a file with dependancies should go to the same folder as its parent.
ie 'morphs++' should be installed to the same folder as V4, and any characters that use EXP should as well.
the only things that need to be installed to Poser's own runtime are python scripts or certain light sets that rely on python to work( afaik).
ever since Vista, it has paid to install Poser and similar apps that use content outside of the Programs folder. either on a separate drive, partition or at the root of 'C'.
also , for sanity's sake, have the runtimes ( your own) on a separate drive, where possible.
basically because once you get to having large amounts of content installed, having to reinstall everything when/if the system drive fails gets tedious very quickly.
also, as a newbie you should get into the habit of backing up your installers and content .zips externally.

Ok. So what I would do is use Daz as the download, then select the path would be something like:
cusersbobposerfilesv4
I can try that. Hopefully something will work lol.
If you created a new runtime, you must link the parent folder to the Poser library. So in your example above c:usersbobposerfilesV4, you must link your external runtime in V4 to your library. You can manually add the library or use the python script which will search and link all your libraries on your drive.
Finally was able to solve the problem. I guess the stumbling block was when I originally installed poser. I had the option for optimum performance (used to multi user computers) or traditional installation (which had the best backwards compatibility.) I installed for ultimate performace, and being my laptop was brand new and I was using poser 8 I thought it would be fine, but evidently it was creating problems with loading stuff. I deleted poser and all its files, reinstalled everything for traditional installation, then loaded all my stuff again (loaded everything into program files) and it worked fine.

This seems to be a yearly thread for me, yet once again I am stumped at loading Victoria into my poser. I have a windows 8 laptop, and Vickie 4.2 is already loaded onto my desktop (also a windows 8 computer.) I remember in the past being told to load it to my runtime, or just to follow the trail of files that vickie is loaded in on my other computer, but for some reason those go to a folder called Daz People, and I don't seem to have that folder in my laptop. (Both using poser 8.) Do I make a folder called Daz people in my character folder if thats even possible?
Also having trouble loading She freak 4--might be the same reason.
BTW I'm using Vickie 4.2 complete, which has all the morphs and stuff, all of which seem to be different files so I'm loading them all seperately--which brings the other question do I load the morphs into the Daz people folder as well, or elsewhere?
Any help would be appreciated.
