Has anyone else noticed that the gap between the resolution of the photo on a members comment page, and that of the zoomed view, seems to have widened even more than usual recently. The zoomed view has always been better, but I'm really starting to notice the lack of sharpness in the non-zoomed shot.

Here is an example. It's a wonderful still life of an egg cut in half by wonderworld. Look at the quality of the black background......it resembles a 2 MP photo taken by an old cell phone. But when you zoom, the black has now rendered beautifully.

Cynthia has a wonderful gallery BTW that is really worth checking out.

It just feels that the quality of the non-zoomed views has dropped to the point where it's really letting photos and artists down.

Has anyone else been noticing this?

Andrew, I honestly cant see the difference here. Maybe its my old eye. (have only focus sight on the left lol ) but I could see it in my own upload of today.  Maybe if the images are over 800px or something,  they will be compressed for the page, so we must open it fully to see the original.   My experience is, if a picture is getting resized, there will always be a bit of degradation. Sometime if it is grainy, it is better off getting resized :-D

I looked carefully at her image of the cut in half egg and saw no difference between the two in the black area. And yes, her images are very much worth viewing.

Intersetng Camera. Thanks. The difference is very obvious to me on my hi-def monitor, and I'm seeing it in each and every gallery.

What I'm seeing on the non-zoomed image is the classic look you get if you take a low res image and then enlarge it. You end up with pixilation around the edges, less than smooth colour blocks, and a general lack of sharpness. It could be a money saving thing, which is totally understandable, as I know Picasa and Webshots also famously show lower quality jpegs to save bandwidth. Flickr also reduce the quality unless you pay a subscription, but they do run a sharpening algorithm on the lesser quality jpegs...rightly or wrongly. I have had several members raise the point with me so I thought I would mention it here. I must say that IMHO, Rendo is still a very good service.

I have to say in this specific example I dont see the difference in the black areas of the shot, and I have  42" high definition TV as my computer monitor, but I have noticed in the gallery (specifically in my own) that, since we no longer have the option to post in full size, the un-zoomed version is more so pixelated and blurred.

Andrew, I see no difference, except that I noticed that the zoomed view is the same size as the gallery view.

ILproblema seems to me the very low resolution input image 20kb Invce of 500 results in a huge loss of definition.
