Parametric mapping is also the default mapping option. I hadn't needed to change to Parametric.
I do not see a page 3 of comments, only the last comment is rather long, talking about how the tutorial misses key elements in the tutorial that beginners would not understand, such as getting the transmap to work. I can't gleam anything helpful from that map.
Not to worry though- I've gotten David Brinnen from over at DAZ and he's helping me get my Ring looking as it should.
I had some help with some different settings, besides the transmap, as I'm doing something different with the lighting, and David is showing me some different features in Bryce that veteran users are probably aware of.
To correct my transmap, so it lines up in the center of both the inner and outter rims of the Ring, it was a lot of trial and error with editting my .jpg image of the text. It was a personal preference; to adjust the placement in Bryce, or do it in Photoshop- I chose Photoshop because I'm more confident in that.
Once my Ring is finished, I'll post it and you can decide then if you still want me to give you the settings and demensions and such.
Are you still interested in doing this? If you are, then I have a trick that might help with the engraved text map on the ring... Use the torus set to positive, the cylinder set to negative to carry the map. In the mat editor, set the text map to Blend Transparency, the bump to a negative number and in the DTE with the image, set the middle to white.
Use whatever metal mat you want but remember to use Blend Transparency and put the button in the "transparency" setting. If you want, I'll set up a mini tut here just for you later. (Have to go out on errands and have an afternoon appt. Maybe tonight, I'll get a chance to sit and create it)

JKonstantine I hope you don't mind me taking the text mat that you made and incorporate it into my tut. Do you mind if I refer to it in the mini tut?
skiwillgee: I will try my best to get the tut up some time Friday evening. Right now I'm in the process of writing it up, creating the screen cap and putting it together in a neat format, probably will be a pdf format or be posted here in the forum.**

Could I have a link of where the mini tut has been put please?
Edit: Not to worry - I found it. I didn't go through the main form to get to this thread, but an email link. [Link]

Okies, I just had a read through the tutorial and it makes sense, for the most part, except you did things a different way to me. And also I managed to get the text on both the inside and the outside of the Ring - pain in the a*** I can tell you.
And another difference is, I too originally used a torus+cylinder combination to get the Ring shape, but David recommended simply using a torus by itself as it will require less calculations during the final render.
But that was still a great tut, Thunderstone - between the two tutorials, people should have no trouble making the Ring now :)
Thanks JK! Glad it worked out for you... I guess it's true... For every project, there are perhaps millions different ways of achieving the same end.

I found this brilliant tutorial a while ago, showing the steps how to make the "One Ring" and I have finally started giving it a try, but I am having some issues with the tutorial; something in it that isn't explained.
This is the tutorial I am following (or at least, trying to): http://www.renderosity.com/mod/tutorial/index.php?tutorial_id=1782&page=3
I'm up to the this third page, where the transmap is applied to the Ring for the text. I have my text prepared, and I have followed the instructions given, but the text texture doesn't display on the Ring. I can only find it when I have rotated my Ring around to find it and it's over large - not lining up in the center of the band, both inner and outter like the Ring should.
The tutorial doesn't specify any information about the texture map with dimensions and how it should be put together.
Can someone help steer me in the right direction?
I have attached the image of my text, so you know what I'm trying to work with.
