Subject: Unhelpful choice of items for Hallowe'en Grab Bag

cambert ( ) posted Mon, 31 October 2011 at 10:48 AM · edited Fri, 20 September 2024 at 3:36 PM

Hi,

What were the criteria for choosing the items that went into the Grab Bag? As someone who renders male images using Daz Studio, I've just received a free gift of a material for V4 that will only work in Poser. That doesn't feel very inclusive.

I think the Grab Bag is a lovely idea could it not be made up of items that everyone can use? Props, furniture, sets, vehicles, buildings - the marketplace has eighty-odd pages of these things. Either that or allow the customer to choose their own goodie from the Grab Bag (yes, I know that's not how grab bags work but still...)

I was in two minds about buying the item that got me the Grab Bag and now, for the first time ever, I wish I hadn't spent that money at Rendersoity. That's now how you wnt your customers to feel, is it?

Renderosity offers the best deals for 3D content around. The coupon event (that expired yesterday) was very generous. That said, even with a $5 minimum this grab bag isn't attractive, especially since you can't choose which of the 39 items to treat yourself to.

Hello,

We are very sorry but at this time there is no good way to do this in our currant system.

Your suggestion is noted and appreciated.

Warmest Regards,

And the unhelpfulness continues. It was very kindly worded, Kristi, but it still means: "Tough sh!t, buddy." Here in the 21st century, we usually expect customer support to try and fix our problems. Maybe it's different where you are.

You really have made me regret spending my money here so I won't be doing that again for a while.

Well I feel that the Grab bag is like a lucky dip or as Forest Gump said that "life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you are going to get".

I was so thrilled with the ones I was given. Some were so amazing and the values varied from $5 to $18

It was quite addictive. I chose to buy single items that were on special already; a bonus in itself and then waited to see what the grab bag gave me. Some artists were also offering a bogo so a real double whammer. One time I even got 2 items. I had so much fun!

I felt I should apologise to those artists offering a bogo that buying single items  3 or 4 times meant more work for them. I think I bought about 7 items and was very happy. Thanks Renderosity for the opportunity!

Quote - Well I feel that the Grab bag is like a lucky dip

You know, if this was really a lucky dip, I wouldn't have minded one bit. In that case I'd have gotten the violet bath salts, smiled and given them to an aged aunt. I'd have been pleased that my money had gone towards supporting the local boy scout troop or a new roof for the village hall.

But that's not what this is. This is a marketing strategy for a business, designed to make customers spend money - it is emphatically not a free gift. That's why I'm unhappy about getting blown off by customer services, however nicely it was worded.

Congratulations on your canny shopping, you did well. But it was shopping; we're not at the village fair here.

Of course it is a marketing strategy and only a fool would not realise that. I did not go in it for a sheepstation as we say here, and I was well aware that it encourages the gamble type instinct.

However, how could I lose? I was getting a freebie (bogo) which I chose  with a product that was already discounted AND a lucky dip as well 3 products for the price of one discounted product. It was a win win situation for me AND I am sure the vendors would be happy...... That is also great.

I would rather say thank you kindly than grumble if the Grab was not one that appealed. I thought that all the ones that I was given were super and a bit like icing on a cake for me.

Surely we should be grateful for those who organise such a fun temptation so that our hardworking vendors build sales. Let's try and avoid being knockers after all no one twisted anyone's arm to participate and buy.

The BOGO isn't free, it's included in the price you pay, as is the Grab Bag item. It's not icing on the cake, you're paying for it. I suppose it depends if you believe the price quoted on a product page is actually the unit price of the item. The constant sales, coupons, BOGOs, vouchers, discounts and whatnot are all costed in: a handful of people will buy at quoted price, a whole lot more will buy at some sort of discount. The genuine unit price is much lower than the one you see on the product page. That's Renderosity's business model, and it's the same at Daz. You calculate how many widgets you need to sell at what price in order to make a profit. And you certainly don't reveal that calculation to the customer. Consumer capitalism 101.

Nor is it simply that the grab bag didn't appeal. It was one I can't use. Renderosity had included a product that they know a large part of their customer base can't use: they know better than to assume that everyone here uses Poser. That's been the case for years, as they well know. But the product page for the grab bag item I got says 'This product does not work in Daz Studio'. Putting that into the grab bag mix is thoughtless at best. I'll be grateful when I get professional customer service: someone who says, "Let's try to solve this problem," rather than "We'll maybe think about it some other time."
Like I said before, this isn't the village fair. It's a business transaction and the normal rules of business apply. Good service gets my loyalty, my word of mouth, and my money. Bad service just gets my word of mouth. So far, this has fallen way below any standard of good service.
