Subject: Free Ocean/Wave generator (Windows only)

Kenmac ( ) posted Sun, 27 December 2009 at 11:45 AM · edited Fri, 04 October 2024 at 12:21 PM

Just thought I'd give a heads-up on this one. Here's a cool and free Windows application.
From the readme file:

"MiniOcean is a background generator. As its name implies, MiniOcean gives you the power to make any type of ocean scene. Based on powerful realtime  engine, it is extremely fast. You can see the results in real-time, and don’t have to waste your time rendering. Furthermore, you can have some cool post effects like Bloom, Soften, Blur, etc.in realtime!!!

Features:

- 3D Realtime Wave
- Realtime adjustment wave properties (wind speed, height, choppyness etc.)
- Camera movement
- Post render effects
- Different sky styles
- Export to single image or images sequence

This software is so easy that you won't need any tutorial. Just press all the buttons in the toolbox, slide some sliders, after that press the Play button, choose record (esc to stop recording) and you're done! All the recorded pics are in c:MiniOcean folder."

You can download it here: http://3dbud.com/stuff.htm  Don't forget to copy and paste the free serial number directly underneath the download link when you're installing the program. You can see an example of what I've done with it via this YouTube link:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlnVx1oLYwM  Have fun creating your own virtual oceans!

I've just re-downloaded it and it looks like he's changed it so that you don't need a serial number anymore. I guess he heard from some people at the time that probably weren't too keen on that. BTW I looked in the old version that required a serial number and it says in the readme: "All the recorded pics are in c:MiniOcean folder." Good luck and have fun with it.

HI Kenmac,

Thanks for your reply.....BIG THANKYOU!!

I had placed this in My Documents    ( on C drive)  no worky.

Then into Programs ( again no worky on C )

Then the Heavens opened and the sun and wisdom fell upon me!

So going into my computer I selected   " C" just dropped MiniOceon so it could choose

Where it wanted to live itself.

And it did.

And it all works.....perfect.

Phew...and many thanks

Cheers Jon

No you're not doing anything wrong. I just tried it myself in IE, Chrome and Safari and it looks like the site's not up anymore. I just checked and you can still get the file if you use the cached webpage here: http://74.6.238.252/search/srpcache?ei=UTF-8&p=3d+bud+sea+free&rd=r1&fr=altavista&u=http://cc.bingj.com/cache.aspx?q=3d+bud+sea+free&d=4961688312416692&mkt=en-CA&setlang=en-CA&w=ff5bb5d,fec0dddb&icp=1&.intl=ca&sig=cRXWTGwo6eBC0rrlMRNnfg--

Is it usual for the scene when saved are not an avi but all bitmaps and have to be put through a video editor? Cheers

You can use Virtualdub to assemble the bitmaps into an avi although I've never tried it but the program I used for the YouTube video that was posted along with my original announcement of this app is a program called BMP2AVI. I found it very easy to use. You can download it here: http://www.divx-digest.com/software/bmp2avi.html

Very Cool! Now all I have to do is figured out what it is, how to use it, and how not to suck at all of this.
