Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 08 9:27 am)
Check Dimension3D's zip installer sold here at RMP. I have an older app that works with older DAZ installers and zips but is no longer sold here in the store because DAZ has made their latest installers so hard to use.
Exactly what type of files are you complaining about, where and how are you installing them?
The easiest way to handle zips is to unzip them into a temp drectory and place the files where they belong.
Even though the newer versions of Poser have a more flexible library system, if a file is listed for use in earlier versions of Poser, it will be in the strict Poser runtime file structure. These files tend to be hard coded when generated by Poser so if you move them from the file structure, you will have to manually search for the files. Over the years, I've found it much easier to to install files to external runtimes but otherwise leave the internal file structure alone. It's rare that I have to do any manual searches.
Some files like Python scripts must be installed to the main Poser app folder. Doesn't matter if by default you install the rest of the Content to another folder.
If you have a complaint with DAZ installers, you'd best take it up with DAZ. No one who sells here has any control over their idiotic installers. Much though we'd like to. If you have specific issues with vendor products, RMP with direct you to contact the vendor and attempt to work it out.
Demanding that someone find you software to fix things for you is...nevermind...
The file systems are killing me too. That and the dependency of one character for another. Michael 4 and morph++ seem to be required for lots of other characters. Do they have to be installed together? I have some files that I have installed under a Poser runtime, and as a DAZ 4 file at the same time. I have no idea what effect that has, nor do I know how to remove them. As much as I love the Poser and Daz characters, it may be more difficult than I will end up having time for.
The latest thing I have tried is based upon a tutorial in Poser, which says to create a runtime library directly on your C drive. I have tried to be careful because I saw from the beginning that file structure was difficult, but I fear I am creating a mess and so far a lot of it is proving to be unusable for me. I tried M$ and a freebie Liung, but no matter how I combine them, I can't get Liung to appear.

I tried to sort my folder out but like others have said it becomes and nightmare and some stuff just does not work properly and throws up search for file or there is not enough memory to load this map even though there is. top one's I have found for this so far is MRL's Millie it must be put in the folders as it wants or it does not work properly.

I can't even get them to work in DAZ studio. I wonder if DAZ has figured out how many people they are cutting out of using the software by making this stuff so stupidly. I thought the idea was to sell people the figures and items. I guess making money off this stuff is not what they intended. I use Poser 8 and it dose not do any better. Sure wish I had never got hooked on this stuff because I miss it now but have decided that untill something comes along that really works to get files to work right I will just save all my usless files to external and quit. I will spen my cash on hardware and cameras. It is a shame they had a good thing going..

Something to consider - if you're used to the Poser file structure (I am), then only bother installing the "Poser" side of the products (I do), unless you have no other choice.
I have literally over a hundred of so GB of stuff, and less than 1% of it is D|S native product.
That's kind of the beauty of the whole thing - you get to determine where and how the files are arranged.

this advanced library manager script has been updated for poser pro 2012. It can install zips from within poser and you can see exactly what you are getting and where and move stuff around before you hit instal. Plus the script does tons of other stuff. ie load and magnetise a whole folder of clothes to V4, partial poses like just arms, lower body or hands (with undo from within the script if you don't like the look), search the title of all my external runtimes (of which I have very many) in seconds and just load those ones in the library manager. It's also got a new feature where you can set it up so when you mouse over certain clothes you see a panel of all the mat poses available for those clothes.
Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!

I finally got an i7f and now have 2 computers, one for DAZ and one for Poser. I never could get them to work togeather on one computer. My main problem is I always end up messing up my files so they do not work. I have tried many of the older file correction programs sold and never could get them figured out with the instructions. I am almost 70 so computerize is a foreign language to me.
I would love to be able to buy more files but what is the use If I can't store them correctly. I have a new fast external drive with enough room to file a million dollars worth of files but will not bother if the files can not work or I can't get them installed so they work.
If you want to get my money help me find software that works with minimum knowledge. Like I said I have a new computer with a nice clean install and I keep all my files like I download them. My biggest problem are the DAZ files. I can put the zips in just fine. I do know the people must remain in the original install of the program and they do not seem to be the problem. It is when there is a lot of files that try and make the developers stuff stay within a file that directs poser to list them, like: Poser/Clothing/developer/something else/something else/then the object. It drives me and my computer crazy. If I leave all the files/ in for some reason the computer dose not like it. If I try and remove those extra files the link files use all the extra files so thek computer can not find the final file.
It would be lovely to find something that would work thru the zip files as well, that way I could file the whole file and use it directly from within the zip. Am I asking for the moon? If your goal is to make money and sell this develop item don't put so many go to /'s into it. I don't buy from a developer or artist if I can't get it to install right the first item I buy, I don't buy anymore from that artist/developer. Sorry, but, it is my money and as you can see, I am trying to get things working
