Subject: Left without an upgrade path ...

craftycurate ( ) posted Sat, 26 November 2011 at 6:28 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 2:11 AM

When Vue 9 came out, there was an upgrade path from Vue 6,7,8 Infinite to Vue 9 Complete.

I thought - ah I'll wait a year and there should be an upgrade path from Vue 7 Infinite (which I have) to Vue 10 Complete ... but NO UPGRADE from Vue 7 to Vue 10 Complete.

SADLY my gamble didn't pay off ... and I am now left with no upgrade path.

Thing is I had an email conversation with E-on to say "will there be a Vue 7I to Vue 10C upgrade path? If not I will upgrade to Vue 9C while I can" but they wouldn't say anything before the release, and now that 10 is out, I'm stuck!

Not a happy customer, and a long-time one at that ...

Anyone else stung by this?

Just wait long enough so when you buy it outright it is less than if you had been paying for all those incremental updates and maintanence scams.  Basically buy vue every five versions and you will save more money then if you had been upgrading.  I have Vue 6 Infinite and will buy new Vue around 11 or 12.   The savings is way worth it.

Why not email them now Vue 10 is available and see what they say?

I've left a message and am awaiting a reply - you never know!

I won't give details but E-on has responded in the way I'd hoped and made me a good offer, which I've accepted.

Just so you know - it is worth asking and they do value long-time customers!

I just called and they said there's no upgrade from 7. Can only assume they'll sell a discounted full version... not sure why they do this - must be all the big accounts keep them happy enough.

Unfortunately, for a hobbyist (me), this means I may never use the software again.

I'll still will save way more money than all of you by upgrading every 5 versions.  And because e-on has never been nice to me in any way I might wait 10 versions.  E-on still makes the buggiest software for the hightest price that I have ever experienced.  My wallet won't reward them.

Just having to deal with the activation of the store bought trees is enough.  E-on should pay me to use their paranoid software.  The trees that hard to activate are not even worth it by todays 3D standards.

Since I won't be buying anymore versions of Vue after 10, I've been sending bug reports to e-on which they will have corrected in the next EEF update in the next couple days.  Which means a few weeks wait for me to download.  I just want the software I have now to work without having to continue buying bug fixes via new releases.

I guess it would appear that the dedicated hobbyist base that supported them over the years while they worked their way toward acceptance in major industries has been cast aside.

True that!  And the licensing on some of the lamest 3d objects from cornucopia is not even worth the admission price of Vue.  Many of the vue crashes are causes by 3d objects from cornucopia and the lame licensing that does not work for the millions of versions of vue.  A real shame but nothing last forever.
