Subject: DAZ to make a "game-changing" announcement

The Millennium Cat ate the House Mouse and the Dog keeps weeing everywhere, the Dragons won't stop crapping on the carpet and all the other animals have locked themselves in the boardroom and won't come out until they get new UV Maps and textures. The Gorilla says he wants a bunch of new morphs and can he have Mike 3's willy, please, since he hasn't one of his own and even if he did it would be really tiny.
The Dinosaurs have rampaged around the parking lot and now everyone has to walk home, Emotiguy ran out of Prozac yesterday and now he's on the roof with an assault rifle. DBot tried to talk him down but got a cap in his butt.
Basically, just another day at DAZ.

Oh this is an easy guess. They are acquiring Poser from SM.
When you look at the recent trials and tribulations of SMSI as a company it would make sense for them to try to dump products that reside in the periphery of their core business. Plus, their stock has been trending upwards for the past 5-6 weeks which, to me, is a tell-tale sign there's about to be an infusion of capital and/or reduction in opex in the near future.

As I said in the DAZ forum, this is the funniest thing I've read all week, so if DAZ achieved nothing else with that teaser announcement, at least it inspired you to create this wonderful giggle.

How does Steffie getting knocked up change the game or rock the industry? Unless it was a male Genesis figure who did it... that would be a miracle of biblical proportions. :)
I agree it probably has something to do with the Cloud. Everything new has something to do with the Cloud these days. But I can't imagine what would have them so amped up as to put out this kind of hyperbole in advance. We already download doftware and content. DS users already check in with the mothership every time they launch the app (as do Poser users). What's the big deal about another Internet-based function?
Unless Daz plans to give every user access to every other user's 3D content... A universal runtime available to all. Nah, vendors would stage a bloody revolt. Bur it's an intriguing idea that would both change the game and shake the industry.

It would be the final stage of the CMS thing. The content would reside only within DAZ servers (no piracy possible), you would buy just the right to access it thru your client program (or, maybe, a WebGL enabled browser). On your disk would reside only the DSFs which contain the recipies to put content together. When you are ready, you would ask for a render, which would be done on a DAZ render farm.
I want to make very clear that I would not wish such architecture even on my worst enemy.
My take is that DAZ is going to be merged with a game (or game SDK) company. Consider e.g. the UDK: inside it you find SpeedTree to create plants and its own procedural building generator; Genesis tech would become the character engine. It would even make sense (e.g. Studio is written in C++, like the UDK).

That was my first guess. Maybe they acquired MessiahStudio. I've always thought Messiah is the "missing" Poser animation function.

Hmmm I would Say there is ZERO chance that They are making some big advance in character animation or games for doing so would require a near complete abandonment of their Flagship genesis platform.
They types of industry standard Rig controls for professional character animation for flims & games would not be Viable on such a D/S internal Call dependent, Bloatware figure such as Genesis.
IMHO the best Daz will ever offer in the area of C/A is their canned nonlinear motion clip mixing system in "AniMate2" for Daz studio.
This new effort of DAZ is Likely some new "Cloud content" nonsense.

That would certainly be something. A smart move! Once the game industry discover Poser & Daz with all the content it will be a volcanic explosion of epic dimensions. The current computers are strong enough to handle it.
(Computer games turn-over more money then the film industry.)

I am not referring to the polycount of genesis but all of the wonderful DAZ studio supported tech that Makes genesis so versatile ( Auto fit , Geo grafting etc.)
I see Zero Pipeline Advantage for a game Dev Company to Install DAZ studio and Export an UnsudDed genesis to MAX or Maya , then RIG it properly with and IK/FK control rig and Export it to
Unity or UNREAL just to have "Vicky5 " or 'Anubus' in their game.
and deal with some new DAZ licensing scheme.
most companies build their own assets with mapping optimized for game engines.
And if Daz is Planning to release some stripped down ,pre exported Game ready version of V -chick or other Daz /poser content
then They Have alot of **COMPETITION ** already crowding that market so no "Industry shaking" move there either.

Is that so? As I am cursed with this insatiable curiosity I amused myself by buying some figures from studios that specialize in game assets such as dexsoft. And trust me, no Poser user with self-esteem will ever be caught dead with one of this lowpoly models build in one piece (one mesh cloth and all) with very simple rigging.
Perhaps you can direct me or give a link to game models of better quality?

Ummmm... I am not talking about using such models in poser/Daz studio we are talking about using them to be animated and creating an asset for a video game engine.

After reading the (then) 20 pages at the DAZ forums, one of the most frequent guesses seemed to be 'DAZ acquires Poser.'
Despite the suicide/coronary death toll that it would produce, I doubt that the 3D industry as a whole would give a coelacanth's cloaca. Rendo might want to provision a backup T3 and a few server clusters for the Poser Forum just in case though.
Unless they've discovered alien technology, I don't see them coming up with something that will change the way the exisitng 3D industry works - especially given that they can't really change even this little corner of it. In those terms, I don't think even the online creation/rendering concept we discussed in a thread some time ago would qualify either. Of course, this is assuming definitions they may not agree with.
Getting a whole new set of players into the 'game,' using some combination of existing technology might qualify so a DAZ Messiah Studio might work, assuming that it would be a platform suitable for development beyond the traditional Poser/DS realm. I think the ambition is there, but it seems a bit soon to be announcing the revolution so I'm set to be underwhelmed. All bets are off if the headline includes Microsoft, Google or Facebook.
