I'm not much of a nerd so I did not see this until recently but looks like our boys down under have stepped out of the box altogether. I think this was in 3DSMAX. The little filmette explains it all..

"It is a SCAM!

John Carmack explains why this is useless crap for gaming in an interview with PC Perspective.

The landscape they show in their demo is ridiculously repetitive, though already one year ago sceptics explained that this hinted at one of the greatest shortcomings of UD. Euclideon had one year to prove their critics wrong. They didn't.

Euclideon wants to make people believe that their engine can do higher resolution than other voxel engines. But resolution on voxel engines is limited by storage and RAM capacity for everyone. And as entropy sets a limit to compression, Euclideon also can't do anything more there than others.

So to prove their "unlimited detail" claim they designed this repetitive landscape, that can easily be compressed.

But they can't do trillions of voxels with a artist-designed map.

To put it short: They are no way better than any polygon based engine and they are much worse than other voxel engines like Atomontage."

There are no shortage of quotes online. I think the (counter) reation was so strong they granted no interview for a year. I do refuse to stomp on creative minds and ideas, though and they can fail all by themselves if they choose to.

i made the statement recently in another thread that soon poly count wouldnt matter.... i was quickly rediculed for making such a statement... the technology is here but the status quo will resist and try to hang onto that which has been so profitable to them in the past... it wont work, the future is quickly arriving and will over-run this resistance.... those who refuse to adapt will be left behind, those who embrace will prosper, its not just politics, its the natural selection process...we see this throughout natural history....i am so looking forward to tomorrow...

:O)

edit: gaming isnt the end all be all of the industry, theres more to it than just games...

Y'all have a great day.

isnt this also true of existing technology?... except that its not referred to as repetitive ... its called creating an instance...

Yes/No

Euclidion use a massive instancing:  one object render---> resize render and duplication

(One tree, one mouvement)*N

(One grasse, one mouvement)*N

Idl ? Nothing

Light? nothing

Shading?

Multiple coordinates and mouvements ? nothing

Sorry for my bad language.

your meaning comes across fine , forgive me if i seem argumentative, im not here to argue theres no point in arguing, i just have questions sometimes...im not pointing fingers ... i get over enthusiastic at times , but thats mainly what drives me i try to look at things in a positive light, and see others(not you personally) who have a negative attitude toward creativity and change .. im proud to live at this point in history , i have seen a lot of change in my 57 years here, not everything i have witnessed has been for the greater good but, for the most part it keeps inching in the right direction...

ill bookmark your link and study it indepth when time permits, so much to do...so little time...

:O)

Y'all have a great day.
