Subject: The 3D Mandelbulb/Box

I stumbled into FractalForums.com a few years ago just in time for the discovery of the 3D Mandelbulb. I'm no Math whiz and only have a rudimentary understanding of the Math involved but watching these guys throw those formulas back and forth with such ease was mesmerizing. Watching the 3D Mandelbulb evlove into reality was pretty cool, not long after, Jesse(Jens Dierks) and Buddhi(Krzysztof Marczak) offered up Beta versions of the MB3D and Mandelbulber programs to explore these Discoveries. For me anyway Fractals have never been the same since.

Thank you Benoit Mandelbrot. For giving us the simple formula Z=Z^2 + C

Thank you Daniel White http://www.skytopia.com/project/fractal/mandelbulb.html
Paul Nylander: http://www.bugman123.com/ and all the other geniuses at Fractal Forums: http://www.fractalforums.com/the-3d-mandelbulb/  ...who spent lots of time and effort finding the MANDELBULB

Also to Tom Lowe http://sites.google.com/site/mandelbox/what-is-a-mandelbox  for finding the MANDELBOX.

And to Jesse and Buddhi who make the applications that makes it possible to explore these discoveries.

I just saw a fractal made with this program and RAN to find it, via Source Forge forums.. but the download took me to a page where, although I got it downloaded, my anti-virus protection went off in a big way, telling me the page was trying to attack and infect my machine.... now I am scared to execute the program exe... anyone know where I can get a copy safely?

FANTASTIC amazing fractals ... just got to try it out!

Thanks,

Lyne

The only place sanctioned to offer Mandelbulb3D is FractalForums where Jesse, the creator of the Program calls hHome. You can get the most recent version there and it will be Clean.

Here is the link to MandelbulbV1.7.9.1

hey lenord, you became coordinator here, along with a bunch of new moderators -- hopefully you can help bringing this platform back to life. 👍

i want to join in your eulogy to all these guys, who did nothing less, than adding a whole new dimension to fractal generation.

i guess i'll tune in more often, to see what happens...

see ya

The place was getting Stagnant, had to do something to wake up the Fractalists here. No reason we can't be as interactive in Fractals here as it is at FF and DA, stop posting and running and stick around a bit and share some ideas, there are more than enough different applications used by members here to have a Grand Forum of shared Ideas.

thanks and I got these two links:

http://www.mandelbulber.com/index.php

http://sites.google.com/site/mandelbulber/

I am quite hopeful and excited about this program... I bought another 3d fractal program a LONG time ago (name escapes me now) but am very hopeful THIS one will "go with" my dyslexic brain! :)

I did get a download from the page on sourceforge, but it was NOT the scary page that attacked my computer... thanks to you and Cheryl for help! :)

Mandelbulb3D and Mandelbulber are 2 completely different programs, I prefer Mandelbulb3D because it is a faster Renderer and easier to use but Mandelbulber hs a more precise Render engine but is very complicated to use, your choice.

i agree theese two programs are very different, but i disagree about the ease of use (for sure i do - i'm a mandelbulber freak). for me as a cad professional the clear cartesian coordinates of mandelbulber are much easier to handle, than the camera oriented (polar?)coordinates of m3d.

i used both programs and as they are different, they both have advantages and disadvantages. some examples:

mandelbulber is best for the simple negscale rotbox - m3d is not even close for this particular fractal type.

m3d is best for all sorts of hybrids - mandelbulber is unflexible in hybridisation, and the calculation time is almost unbearable.

the navigator of m3d is both a blessing and a curse. the navigation and the manipulation of most fractal parameters  in realtime are a great benefit. unfortunately at deeper zoom stages you often get stuck with the navigator or it starts to jump around uncontolled. and the navigation in the main window of m3d is simply an impertinence.

deep zooming in mandelbulber works great and is easy. especially in the negscale rotbox the fun begins at deeper zoom stages.

as len mentioned mandelbulber has a still unreached render quality. especially the ambient occlusion and dof come out almost photorealistic. although you have to love it as it is. the flexibility in changing rendering results is better in m3d.

i like to work in both programs as each gives you possibilities the other program doesn't offer. in the end it's a matter of taste and the goal you are achieving...
