From what I've seen, once you have 200+ models for sale (ranging from $20 to $5 each) you begin to see some money trickle in.  400+ models is prefered.

On the 2D side.  Just making little cliparts in Illustrator or Photoshop and having 1000+ for sale at $2 each on a 2D site can generate some money.  In a five year period, sales from a clipart store of that size can bring in $3,000 to $7,000.

I'm guessing photos bring in even more over time, as long as you keep updating them as styles change.  Those $499 discs they used to sell (everything is online now) that had photos of every catagory/situation to use on product boxes.

There are some people that do make a living selling digital models. A few of the Published Artists at Daz do.  One good way to do it is to make your models into Poser/Daz Studio content which sells pretty well. Bryce content sells fairly well too.

PLEASE  SEND ME ANY IDEAS OR SUGGESTIONS

John it depends on what you can do or make. do you make props, figures, or mostly 2d. Like shawn said, the idea is to flood the market and offer as many options as possible. I make prop sets, meaning they are complete kits or sets. I include backgrounds and many aditional props within the set for a low price. I've been told I need to charge more but I'm not in it for the money. I just like the creativity drive and fix I get from completeing a new project. the money is just a perk for me. this is my sight at renderosity.

adding 2d backgrounds to your market in 1200 x 1200 pix will generate a little more income. use your digital camera and take pictures of nature, city streets, old buildings ect. and don't forget closeups for textures like brick, stone, plantlife and so on. all these can be marketable for you at renderosity

Are there any individuals that are familiar with posting jewelry on the Renderosity Marketplace for sale. I have some jewelry that I would like to market and I am not able to understand all of the parameters that the items must maintain in order to be sold on this awesome site. If you are able to help me prepare the model items in order to be sold, please contact me at grobotia@gmail.com...thank you

This is actually still correct today, for the 3d side of things, based on my experience in other market places like CGT. I currently have about 200+ models for sale there, and now I'm starting to really see some progress as far as sales are concerned. The key is to have quality models, but you still need enough content in your profile to compete in any given category, because there's thousands upon thousands of models for sale there in any given category. So unless you have hundreds of models, you may not even get noticed. Of course, I only sell one product here at Renderosity, because the preparation and packaging on the models is so different from the other marketplaces I sell in, I just didn't see any benefit to participating here.

@timi3d - That's one of the problem I had with selling here on Renderosity as well. I have hundreds of products on other markets, but I only sell one product here. Most of the other markets, while in competition with each other, have a unified way of packaging and distributing products, so when I prepare my models for one market, I can use the same techniques to sell at other markets. Not so when selling here. Renderosity is probably a great market, but I just don't have the time to learn how to prepare my products for sale here.
