Subject: Two questions regarding Blender 2.6x

I've just now trying Blender 2.61 after spoiling myself with 2.49b (saved a copy just in case).  I have two questions:

How can I fix the focus in 2.61, so that the figure I'm working on won't cut me off when moving the mouse around it?

Is there a way that I can put textures I created into said figure (e.g.: Antonia), and how should I go about it.  A tutorial would suffice.

I think I got the first question down pat, I think. 

You key in the letter n to get the camera setting...  Why couldn't I figure that out.

I remember one time of asking that question because the dynamic is quite different from version 2.49...

--so question number one is solved for now.  I just need to get to refresh myself with hotkeys since it's been awhile I tried the new version.


However,

I'm still pulling my head on how to put texture over a figure or object.

Any help would be appreciated.

from the main tools pallete click the materials button and add a new material

then you will see the textures tab.......add new

I'll give that a shot.

Is there any way to view it?  When I add textures, it doesn't show on preview window.

I managed to get that figured, but I can't seem to get it to show on Preview mode.

Is there a way to do this?

I realize now that -- in order to get your textures in your figure, according to a YouTube tutorial, you'll have to get the figure UV mapped and all of that.  Not very easy and intuitive at all.

Was kinda wishing that it would be sorta simple.

Only time will tell.

go to www.cgcookie.com and look through the tuts there, i know there are several on texturing. im not too used to 2.6 because i still use 2.49 primarily

Poser figures are already UV mapped. You just need to tell Blender to use the UV mapping, this setting is in the image mapping tab in the texture context.

It took me a while to learn the new interface as well. The Blender Basics ebook was helpful, as was the course on gryllus.net.

The shortcut for your first question is the . key on the numpad. Puts the view focus on selected.

If you're having trouble with the normal Blender Render materials DO NOT go to the Cycles engine yet!  The loading of textures and bumps and Specs with the node system is a major change in thinking. 

Then again it works really well and starts making sense if you use it enough.  CGcookie and Blenderguru both have good tutorials showing the new cycles engine and the new way you put in textures.

So, am I to understand that in order to add back all those UV-mapped textures to, say, V4, you can't just add them in the checkered-box Textures area? When I imported V4 to Blender, in that section for each region I see a Kd.024, for example, and the preview is black. Under image it actually has the image file listed. I delete this, then add it back again... now the image displays in the preview, but in my 3D view, in Texture mode, my figure is purple/lilac. What might I be doing wrong? Also, SSS is not ticked.

in 2 weeks a new official blender will be out. it will have bmesh. so you get advanced knife tool and an advanced mega fantastic bevel which is able to model round edges for low poly models. so we will get tools that are perfect for poser models. an example where to use this. for poser cloth.

on top of all Cycles the new realistic renderer is becoming moe and more complex. in 12 months Cycles will be able to render everything that Poser can render but faster. on top of all it will get SSS and volume effects.

 

so in 2 weeks you will be able to model everything in blender for poser. in 12 months you will be able to pose in Poser and render 100% realistic images with Cycles.
