It depends on the type of Fractals you are interested in, normal 2d fractals, 3d Fractals, Bsaeshape driven Fractals etc. Ultra Fractal and Xenodream you need to purchase the program, Incendia is a good Free app very much akin to Xenodream. There are Many Free applications available for the many different types of Fractals. Apophysis is a great Free 2d/3d Fractal Flame explorer/generator that gives great results with many free Plugins and Scripts available at DeviantArt Resources along with a ton of tutorials available there also. There is also the 3D "Mandelbulber" and "Mandelbulb3D'' (my personal favorite) programs which are Free. Mandelbulber and Mandelbulb3D are very similar in results with Bulber having a Better but slower Render engine and is less user friendly than Mandelbulb3D. Mandelbulb3D (MB3D) is very easy to use, there are many starter parameters shared by the users of the program everywhere, you can basically be creating excellent 3D Fractals within an extremely short period of time without a great amount of fractal experience. Like I said it depends on what type of Fractals interest you, cruise the gallery decide where your interest is and go for it. You can always post questions here in this Forum and I'm sure, depending on the program, myself or someone else can help you out.

There is an Apophysis7x for Mac, Windows and Linux from Xyrus, it's Free

http://apophysis.xyrus-worx.org/

Ultra Fractal has a Mac version too, you have t buy it though. There is an App, I can't remember the name of it at the moment, strictly for Mac that looks very cool, I'll try to find it again to get a link for you.

Mandelbulber has a version for Mac I believe and Mandelbulb3D will run on MAC if you run it under the WINE Emulator.

Lenord is correct in saying that Ultrafractal is not free, but you can try out for free so you can see if you like the program.

I found that Fractal application, it's called Quadrium for Mac, what I've seen from it is very cool. It's not Free either but there is a Demo version so you can check it out.

I'll check these out later tonight. Don't mind not free. Just like to know what I'm buying. Very helpful. Great!

I actually own Quadrium Flame and Quadrium 2 --- excellent. I am now also looking  Mandelbulb 3D.  I have version 1.7.5.1  It downloaded with Wine (for the Mac)  I see from posts elsewhere that the most recent version of Mandelbulb is 1.7.9.3 ...

However that appears to be for Windows only.  Is that version available somewhere for the Mac?

Lenord - you're a wonderful help. I have just signed onto the Fractal forum and am waiting for the moderators to authorize me.

Thank-you.

Barb

I believe all versions of MB3D since v1.7.5 have been created equal as far as being able to run on MAC, I think v1.7.5 was the first v where Jesse made a concerted effort to make it as MAC ready as he could. Jesse is the sole programmer of MB3D, it's his baby and is only available at FractalForums. As of this time it is only 32 bit with no forseeable 64 bit version coming due to limittions of the Language being used and Compiler limitations, all versions are designed for Windows PC but usable on MAC under WINE.

I just recently checked Buddhi's(Krzysztof Marczak) site and Mandelbulber has 32/64 bit versions for PC, Linux and MAC
