Subject: More PP2012 Library issues

jjroland ( ) posted Wed, 16 May 2012 at 10:41 AM · edited Fri, 31 January 2025 at 12:03 AM

I'm really starting to feel like I'm never going to get past this part.

Maybe I am missing something but I have installed v4 and no matter what I do using installer she does not show up in this library.  I have refreshed many times.

The path shows her at PoserPro2012/runtime/libraries/character/dazpeople

BUT when I open up the library and look in this folder - under figures, she is NOT there.

I finally just copy pasted into another folder and got her to show up.  Do the Daz installers not work for this library properly?  Has anyone else had this issue?  I do not want to start off with my library being cluster F*****.  I'm trying to learn to work with this evil thing as is.

Help Please

OS? PC/Mac?

Is the PoserPro2012 library under the windows "Program Files" directory?

If you are using Vista/Window7 then you might be running into UAC blocking.

PC / Windows 7 64 bit

Please tell me more about these possible issues.

I was able to just reinstall her into an external runtime labled DAZ and got her to show up in the library this way.  But her Morphs would not install at all.  The program made me install M4 morphs into the Main Poser runtime, so I don't know if that's going to work.

Then next issue, when I did load her, she came in completely black.  Which is not how I remember it working before.  I rendered it and she had blue skin.  I thought she used to load with that ugly purple bikini.  So I slapped the default DAZ sample material on her and it only showed up on her torso.

Turn UAC off. It is not your friend.

Using the V4 installer, install to a runtime that is NOT under Windows' "Program Files"

Install V4 to the runtime. If the installer cries about not finding "Poser.exe", make a text file in the runtime base directory and change the name to "Poser.exe"

MAKE SURE V4 INITIALIZES. Even if it says it did, click on the little batch file on your desktop.

If you have not already done so, add the runtime in Poser.

You ought to be in business.

BTW... turn UAC off. UAC is not your friend.

How do I "turn UAC off"?

Thank you for this info.

Eventhough turning down UAC will remedy the issue, it is not the most recommended method.  When installing PP2012, you are given a option where to place your runtime content; the default will be a specific share folder under Documents.  This is the preferred option for Vista/W7 OS, and I would imagine also for W8.  Typically, DAZ installers will search for Poser.exe; you can override this be either creating a dummy file as Basic detailed, or manually selecting where you want to deposit your content.  Don't allow the installer to automatically search for the Poser executable.

/sigh lol

reinstalling Poser for the 4th time then I suppose.

Yeah, I wouldn't turn UAC off. If it were me, I'd reinstall Poser to the root or to another drive (like I have since version 6).

While UAC is a pain in the ass at times, it is there to keep bad things from happening to your program files ;).

Well guess what...It did not work lol.  I followed the above instructions about allowing it to install to the default runtime location...then I installed v4 to the default runtime location.  With this dummy poser.exe.  Initialized and updated v4.

Open up Poser, look under figures in library for any trace of V4 and ....dun dun dun: Nothing.

I can access her from external runtimes still but I greatly prefer for my main figures to be located inside the main runtime.  It keeps things clean for me.

Soooo what to do now?... :(

Maybe you have this sorted by now, but ...

There are two "main" runtimes now, if you used the default installation option. One is for code - the other is for content. This is because of UAC - trying to help you keep things separated. Data and code should not be mixed, and code needs to be protected.

So you have repeatedly installed your DAZ stuff into the code runtime in the program files area. Not only is this not where Poser is looking for content, it also isn't even allowed and your files are being whisked away into the mysterious place called "Virtual Store" - never to be seen again.

Your problems have nothing whatsoever to do with Poser and its new library. It's the new Windows, and the old DAZ. The DAZ installer is trying to help you because it thinks you are stupid. It is the installer that is stupid. It's way out of date.

Sadly, the only solution is for you to learn what is happening and take over.

Stop trying to install to program files.

Personally, I would not install DAZ stuff in my SM content folder anyway, but if that's really where you want it to go then you have to trick the DAZ installer properly.

Either lie and say you're using Daz Studio, or put your fake poser.exe in the right place - in the Poser content runtime that's in your documents folder.

The new library SHOWS you its path - look at it. Hover over any folder - the full path is displayed. Unless you changed the display options.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
