Subject: How to Save figures for further work in Photoshop?

Droppingin ( ) posted Fri, 18 May 2012 at 8:43 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 5:31 AM

Hello All,

The reason for me getting into the 3d and figures is to produce collapsed or 2d content for my artwork using Photoshop and Studio Artist. Although I am fairly techie and have been using PS for many years, 3d is completely new. I am not using PS Extended.

After watching countless videos and reading forums for the most of a week, I finally got started using Daz yesterday and made a simple model figure with no attributes except to customize the body. However, could not save as JPEG.

Questions:

Can a bare figure, no clothes, be saved as a PS compatible format? psd, jpg, tiff

Can a wireframe/mesh figure be saved or exported to use in Hexagon?

Can Daz figures be imported directly into Hexagon without previously starting in DS?

I do not think it makes a difference but my platform is an iMac bought in 12/2011 and am using all the latest Daz products from their recent free offer.

Thank you much for any help.

Once you've setup you're figure (with or without clothes, lights, props etc.) You save it as 2D by rendering it. The shortcut is Ctrl R (Is that Command R on a Mac?)

You first set the quality, style, location and size of the image you want in "Render Settings". Thats Crl Shift R.

Yes, you can export to Hexagon. What are you intending to do to it in Hexagon?

Thank you much Prixat, greatly appreciated.

I guessed it had to be something simple but did not take it far enough. I see all these fantastic galleries with jpg pictures and there had to be something I missed.

Why take a wireframe or mesh into Hex? Well, the model I had had limited morph'ing and I thought if it could be brought into Hex, it could be morphed to hearts desire.

At this point in my 3d education, I am not sure where I am going and what exactly is required. I am a photographer and turn my pictures into art images. Here is some: http://droppingin.smugmug.com/

Thank you again.

In the galleries those jpegs you mention are the result of a rendering of a scene, putting that file into either gimp, photoshop or whichever program you would wish to use to do tweak the file, and saving it as a jpeg to post onto the site.

You can save as pngs (which I prefer) as well as other formats once the render is finished.

As for morphing- each base model (M4, V4, Genesis for example) have sets of morphs that you can purchase seperately to tweak the features and body structure as well as give the resemblance of emotions.  The more morphing sets, the more variety you can have. I do believe exporting the model as an obj file and importing it into Hex to work the mesh itself into something else is perfectly fine- but I don't have the knowledge on how to import it into Studio to make the new mesh configuration into a morph itself.  Unless you can save it AS a morph in Hex?  I know you can do it that way in Carrara and PoserPro.

Thank you Darwin.

I gaining confidence in the direction chosen.

Question: what is a typical work-flow for most of the art I see int he galleries?

How often do folks use PS to do their final tweaking? I am sure not blazing new ground.

Any reason you don't want to use DS to send to Hex using the built in commands to transfer between the two?  If you do, as long as you arn't adding/removing  from the verticies/mesh you would get back a 'morph' that can be saved and not mess with the texturing.  If you do add/remove then its a 'new' mesh so to speak and will require more work, texturing etc.  You can also add additional mesh like horns being attached as a prop etc.

As for scenes there are a number of good tutorials out there, Dreamlight has some excellent tutorials in the Dreamlight club, and has the lighting master on sale right now I believe.   You are probably further ahead of me being a photographer and setting up proper scene lighting GRIN

Thank you Xerxes.

I am just getting started and did not know the mesh figure could or could not be brought into Hex. I am still learning what file type/format a mesh is.

Since the figure is so limited in DazS that simply using the mesh in Hex would make life so much easier. However, I thought if it were that easy, why would anyone purchase a morphing figure package? After all, Daz is a business.

I will try again later today maybe.

I was using photoshop Cs5 with 3dbridge (inclued in DS4 pro) in DAZStudio 4 pro and i can command directly from Photoshop a rendering scene from DAZstudio to a layer in Photoshop

I am now with Photoshop CS6 extended because the 3d aspects of Photoshop have been  redesigned with more possibilities éI can do the same as i did in CS5 but now i cam send the 3d scene from DazStudio to 3d layer in Photoshop using 3dbridge.But the result is not constant ,sometime the shaders are not correctly imported

We can also supposed to import in CS6 some 3d formats .The collada one exported from DS4 is incorrected  and CS6 refuse to import it , The obj format have also problem with the shaders The 3ds format seems to be ok until now with my tests

But i am still a newbe wth 3d in Photoshop and i don't realy al the functions

Thank you Martial.

I got Daz when they did their free offer about a week ago and not sure if I have DS4 Pro; I think it is. I will look for 3dbridge.

Great to here that I can work with some of the formats in PS.

I hope you undestand what i mean because english is not my native language

Be carefull:in Daz you need to choose an interface with ''initalize photoshop 3dbridge'' in the File menu and in Photoshop ,go to automate and click Dazstudio 3dbridge  Photoshop will give you  access after to a windows with many commands for Daz Studio

The rendering is the same as in DAZStudio except the result is imported directly on a layer in Photoshop

It comes down to time, energy... I mean spend 5-10 on a set of morphs that does what you want, or spend an hour.. 2.. a day.. a week.  Depending on your time, skill, desire etc.

I hope it all works out well.  Did you try the DazStudio Send to Hex command?
