Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Quote - > Quote - Ho well il have to try the export option since I dont know how to reduce texture sizes.

In the Output tab select the Collect texture option which will enable the slider for the size of the collected textures. Set the size to 2k or 1k and you are done. As usual, there are full details in the Reality User's Guide.

Hope this helps.

Certainly does I read the RUG many times but I suffer from ADD LOL. I will need to do this because even when I would re start the saved scene right from LUX it would take 5 to 7 minutes for it to run without bogging down so that I could adjust settings.  Render times did not take longer though.  I had it bake for approx 6 hours..

try entering it as 'me.deviantart.com' in the address... (although that may only work if you stay logged in...?)

There's reports of a 6.0 quake hitting Northern Italy this morning. Anyone know what part of Italy Paolo was vacationing in? The quake was in the region of Emilia Romagna, thats the extent of what I know.

mbin ( ) posted Sun, 20 May 2012 at 6:33 AM

if you have ever had an email from DA in response to an issue you may have raised, you could use that as something to reply with to make them aware that you have an issue? ...anyway, I hope it sorts itself out soon!

I think there is a problem with the "Domain Name Server" of your ISP. But there are options, you can choose an other DNS yourself. Read here -> https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

Question does reducing the texture size simply help load / run larger scenes does it also reduce render times? Are you doing this eveytime you render? Can anything get affected because of this?

Loading a ascene is lots quicker. It will have an effect on render times as there is less memory to move around but I don't think it would be noticeable.

Gemma's EntranceJust messin' with a couple of ideas. The image was rendered as two layers and then combined in PS with a diffuse glow added to the fireworks layer and levels/saturation/sharpness adjusted to suit.

Agreed. It's one of those renders that makes you do a double take. I use DOF on everything. The realistic use of shadows and light and shade is another thing that makes renders photographic, and this has it!

I am confused regarding collect textures. When I select it the slider it is at 0.25k do I increase it to 1 or 2 k? to reduce the size? I tried this with a new render I just started it seemed that it took longer to load. I thought th idea was to help with fater loading / render times? What am I missing? Thanks

It all depends, of course, on the size of the original texture. You need to verify at what resolution they are. If you have 1024x1024 (1K) textures, then selecting 2K would be the wrong choice.

The purpose of collectures has nothing to do with faster loading times (quite the opposite). The purpose of this feature is to:

A) Be able to transfer the whole scene to another machine

B) Reduce the memory footprint of the render

C) Possibly reduce render times.

D) Make it possible to render with SLG given that GPUs don't have large amount of RAM

The collection of textures, of course, requires going through all the textures in your scene and copying them in the resources subdirectory. This procedure alone can take a couple of seconds. If you need yo scale down the texture then thy need to be loaded, resized and then written to disk. This can take a few seconds, the first time that you execute the render.

Hope this helps
