I like them both, but the gulls on the Atlantic is so ... present!  I feel like I'm standing right there, and honestly, I'm a little concerned about gull poo.  :)  Excellent shots, and perfect contributions for this month's challenge!

Great macros Helle. Flies are always great models and snails are perfect because of their slow "steps". Well done.

helanker ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 4:05 AM

Thanks alot Bernie. I kind of like snails too. they are so odd with the eyes on a stick LOL!  I cannot say i like flies, but they are fun to capture with my little Canon. :)

Thank you so much Praep. You are right, snails are easy to capture. Maybe that is why I like them LOL!

praep ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 6:51 AM

Attached Link: The Matrix Fly

I captured a fly in the past with a flash that was to strong for the white table - the result was "The Matrix Fly"

Not a challenge-contribution - just for fun...

Mario, thank you very much. :)

dochtersions ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 9:28 AM

That rabbit is SO cute! a real model, praep.

Your snail is stunning here, Helle. I am sure it is the hardest racing snail I've ever seen, pass by his house.

The fly has great details, my friend, for sure the splendid macro-fly "Hairy" :)

See you soon, friends :)

Nicely done on both images, Helle!  Snails are much more my speed, as far as moving targets go.  LOL!

That's a gorgeous butterfly, Ed.  Wow.  I love those silky black wings!

Hi friends,

For this week, here's something from me.
We saw this deer in the afternoon, not far from our house.
It is rare that you meet here a deer. There are probably ( I guess) 5 copies around here.
But it's not often that they show themselves, so we where very exciting by seeing it.

Another shot from it.

helanker ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 12:47 PM · edited Tue, 22 May 2012 at 12:48 PM

OH, How cute they are. We dont have these around here. Must be a fallow deer,  yes? They are bigger than the little roe deer,  we have so many of here.

Love its spotted fur :D  Beautifully captured, Jacomina :)  Have you thought about, it might be THEM who are messing up your garden? You need to set up a WEBcam in your garden.. :)

kgb224 ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 12:54 PM

Very adorable Deer Jacomina.

Blessed day and week.

God Bless.

Well, not so cute as a deer...this watersnake was sunning beside a pond and seen this weekend.  The boldy is perhaps 1.5 inches thick in the middle section. These are not venemous but if unable to slip away will bite and may leave a mark on the skin. The law makes it illegal to harm or keep alive or any part of wild animals which are not legally hunted, including this snake. Kill it and face $1000 fine where we saw this one.

helanker ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 1:18 PM

That is indeed a beauty.  Excellent shot, Tom.

We have a grass snake hiding on the stone fence :-) Have seen it severel times, but unfortunately never when I have a camera in my hands :-(  I will try to spot it. :)

dochtersions ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 1:35 PM

What a fantastic animal you've captured here, Tom.
I love this shot, as the two textures are such great together.
BTW, thank you for the interesting info, Tom.

Thank you, dear Helle.
And indeed, that is something to think about, it could indeed be deer, which made that mess in our garden! You know all about this, huh ;-)

helanker ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 1:44 PM

You bet I do...lol... and I just planted two geraniums today and I am almost certain they are eaten tomorrow. Once last year I came out a morning and ALL of my 8 geraniums were without flowers. Eaten ! That was the thanks for all the winter having feeding them...lol! Ungrateful little robbers. :)

TomDart ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 1:56 PM

Deer... we live just inside a wood line wth a small woods behind the house. Deer will eat our yard plants and love the fresh shoots.  My mother-in-law lives in a small city with houses all around and deer still find her flower garden and vegetables.

I was told of many ways to keep the deer away from plants and one which was effective is this: String a "fence" of old video tape around the garden, tape about 1/2m to 1m above the ground.  The tape shimmers in the air and may make a sound the deer hear.  This is not attractive but is not ugly.  Last year the tape stopped the eating of hostas at the wood edge.  This year, I will use if needed until the plants are fully grown.  Thus far, the plants have not been nibbled.   Squirrels will sometimes dig up the bulbs of tulips and other bulb plants.

Jacomina, the deer may believe you planted the garden for them!  Yummmmm!

helanker ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 2:11 PM

WOW! I must try that trick out here. THank you,  I soon cannot have any flowers unless they are in a hight that they cannot reach, so we have a balustrade on the front of the house, where we place our pots, but the pot I planted two geraniums in, is down    I take the chance .... maybe they dont like them this year... they change alot.

Thank you so much for your "fence"-idea, Tom! Indeed the squirrels here can make a mess too in our garden ;-)

Good luck, Helle.....you are very brave putting Geraniums for the deer, LOL

Leo and Tito are really friends to be very proud of, Maria. I love your photo-shots of them. It's so adorable how they look.
BTW: Success with your computer!

The deer looks realy nice - sure a fantastic surprise to see one so near your home.

The snake is impressive, never saw such one.

I love the look of the dog and wonder what he is thinking about the photographer. And the cats are just cute.

Awesome collection of animal-shots here.
