Subject: Daz Studio 4.5 crashed in under a minute

pzrite ( ) posted Tue, 22 May 2012 at 7:47 PM · edited Sat, 02 November 2024 at 12:51 PM

I know this is still a Release Candidate, but I was hoping for just a LITTLE more stability in trying out D|S 4.5.

I opened a previously built scene consisting of the Genesis figure and some clothing items.  I went to adjust the "bulk" parameter on the shoes, and then....CRASH!  I didn't even have the program open for more than a minute.  It took me longer to fill out the Tech Report.

Not a good sign.

Anyone having any better luck?

Yup.  Much better:

DS 4.5  All in a single scene in 32 Bits.  Linux/Wine

1406 Nodes

15 Lights

3 Cameras

3,776,666 Verts

1,539,246 Triangles

2,803,103 Quads

4,342,349  total faces

11 genesis characters

43 Revisions of the DUF file.

Must be something with my hardware configuration.  I just had another crash, this time the session lasted about 4 minutes.  I uninstalled it and put version 4 back on, I'll just have to wait until the full release and hope it works better.

Just an idea, but you may want to be sure you have the latest drivers. My past experience from testing new software that crashes is usually caused by an out of date driver.

So... I got the FREE version of Studio 4 PRO. Now I'm only asking this here because of the down time at DAZ. What happens if I install 4.5 and they release it. Will I have to pay a huge amount of money for a thing I've become adicted to?

No, the DS pro give away includes future updates so don't worry about that.

pzrite: What are your system specs, that could be helpful in helping you out!  :-)

I ran 4.5 on two instances for about an hour with no problems. Not complex scenes but I never do that on my laptop anyway, I know it would chugg at that point. Autofit keeping morphs saves me a few steps, but I forgot to test out any of the other features. Will try that today at lunch.

Keeping 4.5 off my main computer until its out of beta though just in case.
