Subject: Material Pose Question - Why is it doing this?

I'm experimenting with Material poses... this is the first one I've tried to make, but as you can see from the picture something is going wrong... when I first apply the pose the eyebrows render bright white like the image on the left, but if I go into the materials window to see why everything looks fine... then when I go back, without changing ANYTHING and re-render the eyebrows are just fine. I want to reiterate that I didn't actually change anything between rendering the picture on the right from the one on the left, I simply looked at the settings for the upper eyebrows to see what they were and then re-rendered... anyone have any clue why it's doing thing?

That should be "why it's doing this" not thing. :)

There's a radio button at left that says something to thge effect of "texture change to all parts of the body" (but more succinctly). I'd bet that in your first render, the eyebrows were given a default material of some kind.

The box isn't checked... and when I looked ath the settings there is no texture, bump, or reflection map set, all of the colors are set to complete black, min and max transparency are set to 100% and the falloff is set to 0.

For Upper Eyebrows, don't assign the texture map, set it to None. Use tex on Eyebrows, that should do it.

I cheated... I just opened up another file that I knew worked right, and copied the chunk for the upper eyebrows, and now it works just fine... I guess I could've just done that to begin with... I'm not sure what was different between the two, but at least it works now.

Go into your CR2 and set Upper Eyebrow texture to NO_MAP

I thought that's what it was too, but I tried that, and it still did the same thing... there's obviously something that I missed somewhere, and I'll probably find it eventually but at least I got it to work with a work around. Thanks for all of your help everyone! :)

For those who are ditching Uppereyebrows in favor of a straight painted on texture - you are missing one of Vicki's strong points.

Thanks djthomas. Jaager - I actually use the upper eyebrows most of the time... I just didn't with this particular texture... I have two versions... one has the eybrows painted out completely, which I use the upper eyebrows with... I think the upper eyebrows are great actually, you can make some very interestingly shaped eyebrows with varying the trans. map.

Cin- actually, I thought you Were using the material, it was the other advice, I was commenting on. On your render with the pink bkgrd, the left eyebrow has an outline. Is this because of a diffenece in skin texures, or is there something other than pure black on the highlight of a transparent layer? The right does not seem to have it.

I'm actually not sure what that's from, I noticed it too... I thought it was a flaw in the texture map, but it could be a highlight now that you mention it... I'll have to check.
