The installer is probably looking for a file that is not on your system, or is not registered to do administrative tasks.
To find out what the problem might be, do the following.
Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer.
Wait for the Event Viewer to fully load, this can take a while depending on the log sizes.
In the left hand side of the Event Viewer, expand Windows Logs, and then select Application.
To the right on the top is a centered window that will list all of the errors that applications and installers triggered logging events. If you are lucky, there will be a listing in there that is the installer that you ran, and what it could not find that caused it to hang.
If it is not there, you will have to experiment to figure out what file is missing that it is looking for. Many older installers used Visual Basic runtime dll files, which are not in a base install of Windows 7. And sometimes not even installed when you do a 64 bit runtime install.
There are a few 32 bit versions of it, but 5 or 6 is usually what you need for older installers.
Version 6 support installer is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290887
Version 5 is here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180071
Hope this helps.

I got something from the event viewer on the installer

Without knowing which version it wants - or even if that's the right dll, it's hard to say. You can try downloading Dependency Walker http://www.dependencywalker.com/
it's a tiny, no install utility. Open the installer with it and you should be able to see which dll it's calling. There will be a LOT of stuff there but hopefully you will be able to see if one of the runtimes is missing. If you're missing something, you can download it from Microsoft and install it. If somehow you get only the dll file, try putting it in the folder with the installer - that may work. Having said all of that, usually if a dll like that is missing, you should get an error message, but no guarantee.
Don't worry too much about any 'Delay Load' errors. Those are fairly typical. The runtime dlls AFAIK, wouldn't be delay loads.
Since 3anson has it working hopefully the issue can be resolved.

Well, it's a 32 bit program, so I would think it would use what it found in the system 32 folder, but why are all the 64's red? Are they errors? Maybe it is looking in the syswow64 folder but can't use what it finds there.
I dunno what's going on. Have you ever worked so hard to install a program before? LOL. Certainly no one can say you didn't try to make it work ;)

Allah, Moses etc. be praised! The shim thing is part of IE8 & probably a delay load at that so.... sorry for the goose chase on that. Looks like Windows Update may have installed a security update or something that killed that installer. Usually I turn autoupdate off and try to see if I really need an update before installing any of them. If the Iranians had followed suit, they wouldn't have gotten their lunch eaten by Flame :-)
Make a .rar/.zip of the files in case you need to run them again. Glad you got it.

Can anyone tell me if AGE works in windows 7? I launch the installer and nothing happens. In the task manager it shoes system 32 installer as a running process but no install UI comes up. When I go to shut down I have to force the process to stop. I have tried running compatability mode for windows xp and as an administrater
