Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
The warning message is because the .exe file doesn't have a digital signature - a feature to determine if the file really is from Microsoft or a recognized publisher. As you've discovered it's common and 'usually' safe to ignore.
Try checking the file sizes as I suggested to see if you got an incomplete download. I suspect though that the file(s) are corrupted probably because of the issue noted by DAZ.

Hborre, you may be correct with the Poser.exe factor. I've never had to deal with it and I don't know how exactly the isntallers respond in that instance - may depend on the version of the installer I imagine. Regarding the age of the file(s) though it seems that it is exactly the older installers (at least) that are borked. Somehow the new download server software is adding a few spurious bytes at the end of the file(s), rendering them inoperable. One user reported fixing them by 'simply' deleting the offending bytes in a hex editor.
My DSL is screwed at the moment or I'd try downloading some of the older free items to see if I could duplicate the error.
Marcuse, have you ever been able to install any DAZ items before? If not, you could try downloading and installing one of their free items (assuming they're back online. If you can install anything, that might narrow down the Poser.exe issue, especially if it's an older item that I presume wouldn't be aware to look for PoserDebut.exe as a valid Poser program. I'd first contact DAZ support through the link references previously and tell them which product you're having problems with and that you're using Debut. Be aware that considering they're apparently having problems with the new setup it may take awhile for them to get back to you.

Thanks sorry for the delay. Unfortunately there weren't any file sizes displayed on the downloaded files so couldn't check, however I've just managed to download the Millenium horse which was free. It went into the Daz3D library ok but not knowing what to click on as there were so many files I had to take a guess (!) but all that came up was Andy. Then I got an apologies for the inconvenience message saying it would have to close down and did I want to send an error report.
I contacted Support yesterday evening but no reply yet however they're hoping to clear the backlog of tickets by Friday so best till wait till then I think....
Thanks again for all the help it's much appreciated

I kind of doubt the sizes are the problem but if you Right click once on a file of any type and select Properties from the menu that pops up, you should get a popup dialog that shows the information.

Unfortunately the horse has no file sizes anywhere, either on the Daz original order page nor on the final paid account file. However you'll see some of the various programmes in the attachment that could be used to open it though I've no idea which one....

Now, Andy is gone from the scene, I deleted him permanently. Please notice to the right, there is an open window which shows some figures in my Victoria 4 runtime folder.
If you do not see your own folder then you need to add it to your Library. At the top, right (circled in red) is the add runtime button. Clicking this button will open a browser where you navigate through your hard drive to your new runtime.
If there is something you do not clearly understand, please let us know.
My mistake. I thought you were referring to the files on your PC not having sizes listed. You meant on the product page at DAZ. The free items never had them I don't think. THe paid items used to have the sizes listed. Their new software might not display them. OK one puzzle solved. It appears that you are trying to use Windows to do what you should be doing in Poser. Unfortunately, I don't know what Debut looks like. Hborre's screen shots may help but perhaps you can post a screen shot of your Poser Debut screen and we can work from that. Also, as you said, review the basics of loading figures in the manual. Your Jun 7, 2012 1:03 pm post above looks like the folders for DAZ Studio software but maybe the 'Pos' means Poser - never seen that before. Maybe a screenshot of the expanded folders where you have Poser installed might help. You can also use Windows to search for the file: blMilHorse.obj I believe that is one of the files that should have been installed. If we can find out where that is, we may be on the way to a solution. One step at a time :-)

Goodness thank you both ! Firstly to bring you up to date I've also been on a Daz forum in the last day or two which I think is self-explanatory trying to understand it all as well, to the extent that they've now created a new thread about it as they can't understand what's happening either ! Had to cancel trip today due to bad weather....

Meantime I'm ok with all the library stuff in principle thanks though still having to refer to the manual all the time but this is routine stuff and just the learning side. But as you'll see from the Daz thread the basic problem currently seems to be that there's no Save option only Run which made me wonder if Debut is incompatible with something, and why I decided to re-install it again this morning. Problem was the same thing kept happening only this time it crashed whilst loading all the library elements. Incidentally I created the temporary file labelled Pos as I gave up looking for the original Poser library, even though they were listed on the right hand side of the workscreen.
So fortunately not having paid for anything and as it's all getting a frustrating muddle this end, I really want to get on and not waste any more time with Debut. So I've uninstalled them both and now want to trial/ buy (?) whatever Poser version that suits permanently, so whatever you recommend at the cheapest price will be great thanks. It'll be more learning but as I've finished Chapter 7 it makes a whole lot more sense to go down this long term and practical route rather than fiddling around any more with Debut I think...

Slight development. Apparently Daz are offering everything for free.... after all that studying and your help too ! Very mixed feelings but I sure could do with the money....so see how it goes for the time being I guess ? If there's a Daz forum on here that would be great as I really feel at home now.....

There is no Poser.exe anywhere, however I'm in the programme at this moment cross referencing with the Manual about "Display Menu Commands" in Chapter 6 with no problem.
Double clicking on Celestial Hair. exe I always get a panel appearing saying at the top "Open File - Security Warning." Then below "The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software ? Then "Unknown Publisher" below that. I often get this panel appearing on downloads though it's never caused a problem before....?
