Bearing in mind I know NOTHING about writing scripts, how difficult would it be to create a script out of the above for instant application?  Then the reflectivity could be applied with a couple of quick clicks and, yes, I actually AM that lazy! ;-}

apply the setting to any surface for the mirror then go to save as shader in the top menu of ds4 . you can then use it instantly on any surface ever after.

The script tool you talk about is DS "Shader Mixer" It has a very easy graphic interface (and plenty of tutorials). You can make some very nice effects easy and it gives you excellent control over surfaces. It can also get extremely complexed with advanced mathematics but that is optional ;)

Shaders can be saved in DS and will apply on (almost) any surface, Materials can also be saved but are tied to specific objects.

Thanks for the heads up.  I'll look for those tutorials and see what I can do.

If you are really lazy (and totally dim, like me)...try using  Khory_D's excellent  Reflections - Glass and Morror Shader presets, here at Rendo.  There are 13 mirror shaders, each with a different patina/fog - and they work wonderfully, like all her products  :)

glad you find the tut useful, and just remember even with a premade shader, ds will not reflect anything except was it to the right of the surface.

SickenlySweete, I'd love to try your tutorial but the images and screenshots are so tiny they are unreadable.  Am I doing something wrong?

The thumbnails aren't expanding for me either.

Here's an easy tut that explains the basics of making reflections work. It's done with screen shots, not just text, so it's easy for nearly everyone.

You can note me at capn-gary.deviantart.com if you need help.
