Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 9:27 pm)
The only thing I can think of is that your runtime isn't set up correctly, save for the characters folder. Had you ever tried to rearrange things or had software that did? Right inside the runtime folder should be Geometries, Libraries and Textures. Those are the important ones. Inside libraries should be Pose, Materials, Character, Face, Camera, Hand, Light, Props and Hair. I think those are Poser's main folders in libraries.
That's the only thing that I think it could possibly be, of course I'm known to be wrong from time to time...lol.

Do you mean that in the library you see the word "Character" ? If so you did something horribly wrong.
When you add a library, the library appears in every category by virtue of it having a subfolder for every category. If it doesn't have a specific category subfolder, Poser creates it.
It is not possible for a library to appear in only one category.
How about a screen shot of what you see?
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

No, under libraries I see Poser 7, but when I select it all I see are the folders and subfolders of the character folder. The Poser 7 runtime is set up correctly. I have added additional folders and subfolders under character, props, poses, etc. but did not change the organization of the primary folders.
BTW, I just tried adding my Poser 8 runtime and got the same result. I clicked add library navigated to the Psoser 8 contents folder in My Documents and selected Poser 8 Contents. That is the main folder which contains the runtime folder. Now in Poser 9 I have a Poser 8 Contents llibarry, but when I slect it all I see are the contents of the Character folder.
Screen shot please of the library with one of these externals selected, one shot of characters category. One shot of props category. Make the details panel visible and select the top entry in the tree so I can see the full path.

I'm sure this is obvious .. but ... did you switch to the props/poses/etc tab in the content viewer?
I dont know when they changed it but instead of going to Library and then to the categories in each Runtime/Library, now you go to category type and then to the library folder in the category
So instead of poser6 having props, poses, lights ,etc
you have Props which contains RuntimeA, RuntimeB, etc
I found it confusing when I started, so I was wondering if thats where you got stuck

There is one more that you did not highlight but is required- scene. You can see it in your list. Poser 9 will attempt to create it. I do not know what happens if the operating system does not allow that to be created.
That category did not exist before poser 9.

Across the top of the library, there is a row of icons which designate different categories of Poser content. By default, when Poser is opened the library will appear in the Character category, denoted by the Figure in the icon on the left end button. Selecting the icon to the right of that will place you in the Pose Category; to the right of that is the Expressions Category, etc. And each icon has a different image based on it's content. This is the way to navigate through the Library based solely on content alone. If you have organized your external runtimes according to content type, you will need to switch to that particular runtime folder to locate the content.

Just got Poser 9 on sale after using Poser 8. How do I open my Poser 5, 7 and 8 runtimes in 9? I tired the Add Library button and selected my Poser 7 runtime, but it only added the Character library. There must be an easy way to add the full runtime. Any help appreciated.
