I have a story in the works that calls for an older character- one closer to 60 than 30. Yet, we seem to be,living in the world of "Logan's Run" where nothing is for anyone over 28. Can some one help me out here?

There are quite a few character/texture sets for the over 30s, but hair is definitely lacking.

Products for males don't sell as well as those for females.  Thinning hair for balding men is going to sell even less well. So no surprise there's almost none of it.

Some hair sets do have morphs that adjust the hairline and/or give a widows peak and grey/white textures are becoming more popular, but these things aren't usually emphasized in the promos.

If I get a chance, I'll have to look through my library and see if anything I have even comes close.

No idea what version of Poser the OP is using, but my P7 has:

Poser 1 - 5 --> Hair --> Poser 4 Hair --> Male Hair 2

Not as severe a loss as poor Uncle Walter but close and can be tinted however you want.  Can be used as a prop on other figures if you load it without a person, then save it as a prop.

I'm using Poser 9- but my Runtime dates back to P5- which included the P4 hair. I have the Male Hair 2 prop. I'll save it as a last resort. It would need a much better texture map.

That's just for making textures- not the hair itself.

I did some hair room tuts on my Missing Manuals website, perhaps these may help.

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.

visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though

Alexios Hair, adjusted with some extreme dial spins.

Well, I played around with quite a few short hair styles. Most have a few adjustments, but none of them really adjusts very much.

The best one I found in my runtime was Alexios Hair (at Daz).  Dial spinning will only get you so far, however.  I found I had to use the morph brush to drag the hairline and flatten the hair. Fortunately, this particular hair isn't terribly difficult to morph with the brush (I spent about 5 minutes on it, and I'm hardly an expert). I also had to lighten the hair materials. The image files would probably need to be adjusted in a 2d editor to get a truly white head of hair.

So, yeah, straight out of the box, there's not much available. Some fiddling (20 minutes or so?) required.

I have never used the hair room in my life- and I've been a Poser user since P5. It's always seemed way too involved.

Someone recommended the Mature Mark Hair. I'm going to take a look at it and see what kind of morphs it has.

This was the best I could do. My morph brushing did not look good with this one, so this is just dial spinning.

Its hairline morph isn't very strong, so I had to fiddle a lot with the dials to get it to actually move much.  You might get better results.

For whatever reason, it's not as amenable to the morph brush, in my opinion.

the glynn hair comes with a gray texture.  it's my favorite for frumpy-ish older gents.

I've been asking for hair for older people for years. No one seems to want to make any.

As people age, even women, their hair becomes thinner and more sparse.

The existing hairs that I've found around Poserdom are not realistic as to the type of hair an older person would have. Yes, you can change the texture to a grey, white or salt/pepper, but the fact that they are so "full" and "lush", really doesn't lend itself to what is typical of the average older person.

mdbruffy, the Hair Room is pretty involved... for long hair. For short hair, relatively simple.

As for the others... you may have to use a transparency map to get the receding hairline you want, but it won't necessarily work very well with every model.

Checking in over lunch.

Acadia, I understand exactly what you're saying. That's why I said it feels like a"Logan's Run" world. In that movie, no one was allowed to live past the age of 30.

believable 3d, I understand what you're saying about transparency maps. Some m odels are alot harder to fit than others.

DAZ has an elderlies set for M3 for some years.

I find the characters rather creepy, but the textures are great, and with some additional morphing you can make a nice grandpa out of them.

Here's the link:

Sorry, but I was more referring to the textures. I know it's no real hair, but it's quite realistic for non-close-up renders.

BTW This hair form DAZ has bald hair-morph:

http://www.daz3d.com/shop/joeyducky-hairstyle/

I have used it for a selfportrait. 😄

I'm not very old, but I've been bald since I was 30.

Ah, dunno about the OP, but this is the sort of thing I would be looking for, depending on how versatile the hairline morph is...

Thanks

Okay, decided to go with Mature Mark Hair from Daz with the morphs pushed to their limits. The  character's not as exact as I wanted, but I think he's as good as I can make him.
