Subject: Migrating DS content to PP2012

EricofSD ( ) posted Sun, 29 July 2012 at 2:08 AM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 12:57 AM

Anyone know how to migrate DAZ content to Poser Pro 2012?  I just purchased a bunch of stuff and it will only install to DS3 (not DS4) and PP2012 is my application of choice.

Thanks.

I added the Daz runtime to Poser under +runtime.

Ok, DAZ knows nothing about workflow or pipeline.

So I bought $1,100 worth of bundles and whatnot and the installers are all over the place.  Some want to go to Poser, some to DS3, some to DS4.

They all have multiple screens to select a different location and it takes multiple moves of the mouse to select the right options.

For example, a halt screen asking me if I want an uninstall.  Yeah, like I want Windoze control panel/programs to have 600 files of DAZ crap in it.  NO.

Then the readme. I'm not going to read all the readme files.  They overwrite each other anyway becaue they are all readme.txt and never differentiate the intall content.

Don't select the default install location cuz it doesn't tell you where and it sometimes goes to Poser, sometimes to DS4, sometimes to DS3 (which I don't have an my registry is cleaned).

Then, some content has to be installed before others so tons of error messages and no auto install to get the sequence right.

Then it asks if I want a destop shortcut. Yeah, right, I want 600 desktop shortcuts for ligts or textures.  NO.  And the default setting is yes so I have to unclick it times 600.

And it asks if I want to create a startup shortcut.  Times 600.  For trivial things like an eyebrow model.  NO.  But the default is yes so I have to unclick it 600 times.

Morons.

The readmes do not, in general, overwrite each other as they have distinct names. The paths are in dzinstall.ini - the location of that depends on the vintage of the installer, so you can have different paths cropping up - and different paths for Poser and DS format content - but the path should be remembered from installer to installer so you shouldn't have to correct more than a few times. Very old installers don't use a stored path at all. The desktop shortcut is to the DAZ store - if you don't want to keep clicking No just leave it on, then delete the single shortcut from your desktop when done.

or if your only going to be using poser then only install the poser installers and not the ds ones at all.

better still, choose 'daz studio' as the app to install to, then point the installer to the runtime of your choice.

with PP2012, the daz installers will have problems anyway, as if Poser is chosen as the app to install to, the installer will look for a 'poser.exe' file, of course, PoserPro does not have one, it is 'PoserPro.exe'

the only things that HAVE to go in specific folders are the morph packs ( Morphs++ etc), they HAVE to go into the same runtime as the base figure.

other than that , content can go into any runtime of choice

personally, i use a multiple runtime set-up, and manually shift files to the folders that suit me( basically, any file can go into any folder you want, apart from geometries and textures, which should not bhe tampered with)

for instance, if an outfit has posefiles for texture change, added props and .mc6 files , i place them all in the product folder in the character folder, so everything is in one place for the outfit, no swapping folder views and drilling down to find everything for an outfit. really cuts down on mouseclicking to load specific items.
