Subject: How much RAM will Poser Pro 2012 use?

drifterlee ( ) posted Sat, 11 August 2012 at 1:58 PM · edited Sat, 07 September 2024 at 3:24 PM

HI: I just ordered a new PC with 64 megs of RAM. Can Poser 2012 Pro use all that? Thanks, Sherrie

Yes, if it needs it (but to be honest I never needed more than 32GB up to now, so I am not 100% sure if it can take 64GB, but I see no reason why not)

I have 24 gigs of ram in my machine and I have actually gone into the page file after I used it all. That is rare, but it has happened. I always say the more ram the better.

Intel Core I7 990x 3.46G 6 core

please tell us what scene you created when you run out of memory :-)

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.

visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though

Just make a complex scene with lots of figures and textures and then render a 10000x10000 pixel image and for faster results put it on a sea plane with displacement set at 4 meters for the waves......

In other words - there are a number of things which need lots of RAM, put them all together and you will run out of physical RAM and enter the SWAP zone.....

But it will render.....

I regularly run out when doing even a simple scene with IDL emitters and some reflections, and that's 12 GB.

(Assuming you meant 64 GigaBytes, not MegaBytes)

DrifterLee, Poser Pro 2012 can use as much memory as you machine holds. I've managed to nudge past 48 GB when rendering, but I'd say that 16 GB would cover 90% of my renders, and 24 GB would be enough for 99%.

The amount of memory you'll use depends on your Poser habits. I tend to make massive scenes with complex materials, and render them at large pixel dimensions with resource-heavy render settings.

Those poser users who tend toward portraiture could probably use an 8 GB machine and never approach its memory limit.

Well, hopefully I can now try massive scenes, LOL!

Yes the more the merrier, for me I have 12gig can't really go higher due to having an original X58 Black Axe mobo that is picky about ram setups.

But in the end 12 gig seems to be heaps for me considering I had 6 gig for about 3 years.

Also if you are using Windows 7 make sure it is either the Ultimate or Professional versions.  As Windows 7 Home Premium only recognizes 16gig of ram.

Strange . . . I've got 8 GB and I've never "run out" of RAM . . .  I guess my scenes are not nearly so complex!

I am the same way. I guess coming off a 1 gig machine to 8 gig tends to make me use less resouce hogging tedhneques and settings. I am finding I can do more elaborate scenes now and am starting to do just that.
