Why does DAZ strongly advise against this if it works? Anyhoo I am ok with waiting the other day or 2 until Reality is ready

Well Callad, you are the exception. You don't need to do things my way :)

Hope I didn't sound like Mr Grey .....

Mainly because both share the same layout files, etc. It works, but when something goes wrong it can be difficult to trace the problem.

I guess you are the one person who hasn't heard of or read the 50 Shades Of Grey trilogy. Maybe because it's in English  unless it has been translated into Dutch.

Well, the tabs do not work anymore (can't get them to show up) and at the top there are some overlaps. Nevermind, I haven't used 3 in ages :)

S'ok Charley I dont use it anymore either. I was using it fr morph follower but it obviously does not work as good as auto fitting.. I have a decent collection of Genesis shoes now and some boots work well due to having the moprh options with auto fit..

Well, I run 4.0 and 4.5 simultaniously on my pc.. (4.5 to test a 'certain plugin' we all know and love)

Now I did install DazStudio in C:DAZ4pro and in C:DAZ4.5pro

Before I installed 4.5 I made a copy of the C:DAZ4pro folder and let 4.5 uninstall the 'previous version'. After that I deleted the original C:DAZ4pro folder and renamed the copy back to the original name. Works like a dream. :)

I'll have to give this a shot when reality 2.5 comes out.  Unless I can create in 4.5 and render in 4.0.

To my reading knowledge, 4.5 scenes are Not backwards compatible with 4.0, which would make it nigh impossible to get Reality to read the data.

In this instance, I save so many of my older scenes to reuse either characters or sets that I'd be shooting myself in the foot to upgrade, only to lose Reality/Lux capability, hence my waiting to install 4.5. I know Paolo is working like a madmen to satisfy our collective wants, but I grant him extra leeway as he's only one man (or so I think!)

sbt.. that's sad to hear.. i'm a big fan of compatibility in both directions.  Since I had it in my head that I wasn't going to upgrade to 4.5 unless forced to; I am one of the few that aren't chomping at the bit for the 2.5 upgrade.  Now 3.0 is a different story.. I want that NOW!

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Sun, 19 August 2012 at 9:49 PM

just a side thought too.. i was doing some searching the other day for info/news revolving around 3.0.  saw the google listings for the "new" Reality 3.0 on several torrent sites.  Never went to investigate but thought to myself "there's a boatload of noobs that are going to be downloading a rar file packed full of virii."

Yeah, that is a bit of social engineering. Reality 3.0 is not out, in fact there is only one version, the one that runs on my machine. Noy 64-bit Mac Os and it's not complete by a long shot. If any website is advertising a Reality download ans it's not either Pret-a-3D or Renderosity, then that site is a pirate or worse.

I've come across a problem that I'm not sure how to deal with.  I wanted to do a scene in a room, but the room is much too small.  I can't get a good angle with my camera, I keep hitting the walls.  I wanted a window and a fireplace, a chair or a bed. That's not alot.  My only experience setting up scenes was in a studio, where of course you have one end wide open and much deeper than you need. When I thought of the idea I just proceeded as usual and literally, hit a wall.  If I stretch the room that messes up the textures.  I have two rooms and both have the same problem.  Is the only solution to make my own objects?  I haven't learned to do that yet.  Is there some other solution?

Now you all have me thinking of 50 shades scenes...mumbles... which of course I can't do if I don't have a room.

Xandi ( ) posted Mon, 20 August 2012 at 2:20 AM

Bob, I'm enjoying your oval office scenes.  I had a thought... maybe your heroine could be a teeny tiny secret agent and posing as a small helpless female, could infiltrate the giants' base of operation.  No need to wire her "partner giant", just slip our tiny special agent into his or her pocket. Carefully hidden by a handkerchief of course.  I know, I know... sometimes I have too much imagination.

Try clicking on a wall (you may have to do it twice) with the Node Selection tool, and see on the Scene tab if it is listed seperately. If it is, then click the eye to make it invisible.

Here's the next one, useful for those pesky plumbing problems they might have : )

If you're in a pinch and the visible eye doesn't work, you can always build a room with those same textures using primitive cubes scaled to wall thickness, or even just planes. You can even use the room as a template and delete it after you're done.

Okay.. so yesterday.. I downloaded that fantastic freebie light set(and the photog props) and slipped one into a simple scene.  Model, clothes, hair, light(and another mesh light for fill)loveseat.  All stuffed into a cube.  With the light prop(the brass floor lamp)my render is the noisiest render I've ever had.  On the lux light tab, I turn that light off and my render is beautifully clear and noise-free.  What gives?

Took screenies of both views

Noisy one

Clear(er) one

And a zoomed out one so that you can see the light setup.  It's pretty easy to tell where the extra mesh light is.

I WANT that floor lamp in the scene so I'm gonna let this one back until either my hot noise is gone or I figure out that it's just not going to go away.  This pretty much hasn't cleared up since yesterday morning.

Sharkbytes-BamaScans ( ) posted Mon, 20 August 2012 at 7:09 AM

Not sure if anyone else has heard; but it's kind of on topic since Lux mimics real world movie-esque lighting as well as it does.  Sometime last night director Tony Scott.. the guy who directed prometheus as well as top gun and is the brother of director Ridley Scott took an intentional header off a bridge in LA last night.  Seems his wife found a suicide note and police found his body earlier this morning.  Just goes to show ya that no matter what kind of success you've had in life, the possibility for lurking inner demons can be found in anyone.

First change the focal length of your camera to be in the 20mm range. Smaller umbers ive you a wider piint of view.

Second, if possible, make the wall behind the camera invisible so that you have more room. If not possible then the wide angle camera should do the trick.

Hope this helps

That is a shock, Tony didn't direct Prometheus, hat was Ridley, but he was a brilliant director. Among other thigs he directed Domino, which is a stylish jewel and one of my favorite movies.

What a tragedy!
