Subject: Previews on details page

A small suggestion that I think would greatly improve the free stuff section.

A slightly larger preview for the item, 350x350px would help see the details better and especially portray multiple items packages a bit better than in the thumbnail size. The Free Stuff front would still display the thumb, but whoever clicked on it would be take to the details page where the larger thumbnail could be found as shown in the attached page mockup I put together in Photoshop.

The text would be pushed to the right side entirely, instead of right and below like it currently is.

I agree...but good luck convincing Rendo ;). I don't think they've realized yet that the freestuff drives this place nearly as much as the MP. For you own satisfaction tho, why not just put your things on ShareCG, where they DO give you a large preview and lots of them ;).

I dunno about the size...I'm 64 and have bad eyes, approve 90% of what comes down this tube, and unless someone makes a very small image in their thumb I have no problem seeing whats's going on..Larger thumbs would make fewer items per page and I think this is one of very few comments on thumbnail size...must be a slow news day sorta thing....

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

We've no plans to make thumbnails larger at this time. We do have the Freestuff Gallery where providers can upload larger images showcasing the items in a rendered environment however, so that is an option :)

Thanks,

I have no problem with the thumbnail size, bobbystahr. I was suggesting a larger preview for the details page. Yes, some items, such as that tube can be put in the small thumb and look ok.

But for multiple files in one package it's really hard to squeeze them all in a 200x200px image.

Take clothing textures... or .jpeg files. As shown above, I have to keep the numbers down to a maximum of 3 per packaging just so I'm able to have them all show in the preview, which is only the 200x200 thumbnail currently.

One additional preview to better showcase our files isn't that much to ask for.

@Jumpstartme2, while I appreciate your suggestion, I don't think many people actually look at the Freestuff Gallery then go to the Downloads page, a lot of people go straight for the download.

The Freestuff Gallery was specifically created for that purpose, and a link to the larger image can be placed in the details area of the item. We understand what you would like to have and why, but its not possible to have that option at this time, which is why I brought up the Freestuff Gallery :)

you can use HTML in the freestuff section.

just please use common sense and do not embed nudity, or you will #%@$ it up for everyone.

oh, and if you want to host the image at Rendo you can either put it in your file locker or upload the image to the gallery and then link it from there.

bobbystahr ( ) posted Thu, 30 August 2012 at 8:06 PM

good use of the file locke as long as the images aren't too large or you'll eventually have to buy more space in the locker

Great find. I didn't know that was an option but I'll be using this from here on. Thank you!

I'll have to check and see when we started allowing HTML embedding in that area, as we opened the Freestuff Gallery for the purpose of showing larger images of the items offered...until then please make sure your not embedding images too large in the details section..if it breaks the page tables it will be removed.
