Are you using PMD's? They were designed to help with this very thing I think. If you're not using PMD's and everything is being stored in the CR2, you're going to see the file size jump due to the large number of morphs, so in cases like that - 31 megs is probably normal. Heck, it's probably pretty low. If you're not using PMD's try saving out a version that does and compare the file sizes of the CR2.
Personally, I don't really care how large a Cr2 is in file size as long as the figure works. It may take longer to load but that's a trade off I'm happy to make if everything about the figure is flawless.
Are you using PMD's?
No. Part of the quest for wide compatibilty involved storing the morphs in the cr2. That's all beside the point now, though.

It's now 3.8 Megs. That's a huge improvement*.*

I'll probably end up storing the morphs in the cr2 if I don't run into a file size limitation when it comes to distribution. *

I also work a lot with fullbody morphs, and ha-ha-, yes they do increase file size a lot.
But PP2012 SR3 has a "partial" solution.
You can selectively delete useless parts from a full body morph.
Example.
A full body morph creates a dial in each and every group of your figure.
Are they all needed? Was each and every group changed/morphed????
Each full body morph creates a dial in the fingers, fingertipstips, thumbs, in the toes, in the eyeballs or cornea's to name a few.
Was something changed/morphed in the FBM there??
If no?
You can safely delete all useless dials from all groups that have "no change" in a particular FBM.
Goto the FBM dial in the parameters palette click the little arrow behind it and click delete.
UNCHECK all groups you want to maintain in that FBM.
Click OK.
All useless dials from that particular FBM are deleted.

I think there's also a python script that strips out all unused morphs for you.

I found a script for morph removal, but it missed most of the morphs. Poser Pro 2012 SR3's morph removal check list was a little tedious because there were about 200 morphs. Morph Manager can remove all morphs from a selected part at once. Even so, the cr2 still had some JCM related junk ithat I was able to clear with Pose File Editor.

WHAW, did you have 200 FBM to go through????
Oh, Lord, :-) :-) :-)
*I think it was 200 PBMs, all joint controlled, including the digits of the hands. That's hard to believe, but I don't want to go back and recount. Anyway, the cr2 has gone from 47 megs to 3.
I'll have plenty of the JCMs to choose from when the WMs can't get the job done.

I'm screwing up today. It was a 3 meg cr2 with PMDs, but it's actually 31 megs with all the head morphs loaded.

Thanks for the responses and the reminder about compression. I'm going to forge ahead without worrying to much about the meg count.

I attempted to create a figure that would use falloff spheres compatible with Daz Studio and all versions of Poser, with corrective JCMs to optimize bending. I ran into various problems along the way that destroyed my hopes of achieving wide compatibility. Though the results were good in Poser Pro 2012-Poser 8, the JCMs were broken when IK was used. Also, the JCM approach made full body morphs very difficult to optimize since each FBM required it's own JCM set.
One consequences of all of these morphs was that I began to suffer from cr2 bloat, exceeding 47 megs at its nadir. When I decided to go with weightmaps, I deleted the JCMs to make a clean start, but I retained the head morphs, of which there are 80. The cr2 bloat has decreased, but it remains substantial, at 31 megs. Is this excessive considering the 80 head morphs? Is there a practical limit to how large a cr2 should be?
