Anyone know how to get the Tyler installer to install to a Runtime outside Poser Pro 2012? It will not let me do it. It keep saying  Poser can not be found. Help?

Why? I have all my characters in their own separate Runtime and not in the Programs folder where Poser's installed. So I need him in that outside Runtime with the rest of my characters but the installer don't wanna. m(_ _)m

There is a possibility to check "other locations" during installation. Since DAZ content seem to work the same way and gave me trouble before, i put a little text file in every folder with a runtime and the name and extension changed to "poser.exe".

Quote - Foot Lady do you really like these feet?? (EDIT to clarify: these are Miki 1 feet)

I agree Miki 1/2 looked more realistic than 3, but they also looked kinda lumpy. I like how gentle 3 looks

Actually, that is pretty accurate for someone who wears flats or uncushioned sandals regularly (barring the lack of color on the heels and tarsal pad, and the callusing around the edges both of which can be fixed with a texture modification and a normal map for the crease detail). Or goes barefoot on hard surfaces. The arch needs a morph to give more lift between the pads for someone who wears modern supporting footwear, and another morph to round off the edges for youth or a moister environment like the inside of a closed shoe.

And I love M1's rigged toes; NO MORE SHOVEL FOOT!!! You could actually pose her in a modern dance pose and make it look right from the floor up. Those who want to just stick heels on and forget it have what they want, mostly.

And no Laurie. You aren't alone in wanting more than a single hinged lump at the end of the leg...... ;)

Heh, yeah, I know that little text file rename to "Poser.exe" trick. I've used it for years. Oddly in this case it didn't work on either Miki4 or Tyler. I even rechecked the executables proper name.

Of course being that I do all the Runtime editing and re-organising on the PC Poser Pro 2012's not installed on, this suddenly threw a monkey wrench in my way of doing things.

Here's the fun part, just to see, I pulled over the actual executable itself from my PC where PoserPro2012 is installed and to my bloody surprise the installers recognised that and would let me install to my Runtimes of choice finally. I guess that old text file rename trick doesn't work on these. So I decided to play it safe and put the installers on my PP2012 PC letting them install to where they want instead.

Now that I have that little fun out of the way, off to my Runtime rebuilding. Ugguu...

btw, if you ever find yourself having to rebuild your runtimes and editing lots of CR2s late into the night, the song "Path" by Apocalyptica is a good one.

It is free, if you delete the extended download for $1.68. :)  But you have 4 weeks access to the download files only.

there really are no nipples on the base tex?  there isnt an alternate texture included?

i can create a transparent PSD overlay for her texture with nipples (and other quick fixes if i see them) and upload it to my freestuff -- but is that going to be complicated for the average user?

does PSP open .psds without issue? i can make a tutorial for Photoshop, but is there anyone here who uses PSP that would be willing to write a few lines describing how to apply a .psd layer to their Miki tex and resave?

Easy, go to the Materials folder, Miki4, Skin folder.

Select the Miki4Gen option.

Oh look, Miki has nipples!!!

I think Tyler a vast improvement over Ryan, but I would have liked to  have seen a variety of texture maps for avaialble at launch.  I don't know why, but these SM people always lack facail/body hair options and that is irksome.

This may have been covered in this thread, but if it was I couldn't find it.  Can Tyler wear Ryan clothing?  Does one have to buy a separate Wardrobe Wizard module for this or does it come with one?

Ryan already has several texture variants. if you want ethnicities you can load these, and customize Tyler in the face room.  IIRC the Ryan textures are under Materials>People>Ryan.

he has about as much body hair as the typical well groomed modern male.  if you want the 'Robin Williams' look,  it will look awful with that much hair coming from simply the texture.  hairy textures just look like garbage (sorry, but its true: hair is not flat and plastered to your body).
it could be done in the hair room if someone were devoted enough to body hair to spend many weeks setting it up and optimizing it -- but then people would complain about complexity, extra steps, extra render time and any potential limitations it would have.

if SM were to have devoted that much time/resources to body hair, you would basically have base Ryan with dynamic body hair right now, and nothing else.  i think that what they chose to spend their time/resources on was a wiser decision. you cant have everything, but what you do have is much improved FREE base figure that can now be further tweaked and altered by end users and merchants into variants that will please everyone.

cheers,
-Gabriel

Spot on comment Gabriel.

I have a hunch that Tyler is going to inspire the marketplace and jump start efforts to support and grow that ecosystem; fingers crossed it is with the same enthusiasm the marketplace has shown when supporting the V's.

My assumption is that you're on a Mac? If so, there is an issue we discovered yesterday afternoon: the options for customizing the install location had been errantly reset by our development tools. We will be issuing an update to the project with tweaks to the Mac installer before too long that include true customize options. My sincere apologies. We did not intend to restrict where you could install Miki or Tyler. And the installers are purely there to assure that the application level support files are installed properly (faceroom, talk designer, universal pose .dat).

Thanks for your patience.

Other than that, Miki is cute. There are lots of morphs to choose from. Weightmaps obviously aren't a panacea. I see issues that I've been struggling with for nearly a year in these recent figures.

Paloth - I urge you to read the .PDF user guides for both characters. They are installed beside the character's runtime. There are really detailed descriptions of everything included, operational instructions, morph lists, adivce about legacy morphs in combo with the new morphs, how the real-lashes work, etc. - if you've missed the part about the full genitalia material set, you're likely going to miss some other really useful things about the charcters...

Wierd eh? 38 and 44 page user guides for figures? :-)

Tomsde ( ) posted Wed, 26 September 2012 at 10:05 AM

I respectfully disagree about body hair maps, if they have the proper displacement they look very natural and not flat.  Jepe is the master of body hair and beard textures and his stuff looks very real.

I know that some people perfer the "smooth" gym bunny look, but not all of us want a hairless male character.  I think Tyler is excellent and I hope that he does inspire merchants to come up with stuff for him.

I have to say one thing after reading thru this thread. People are missing a good point that I think needs to be mentioned.

There have been comments that this is missng, or this should be different from Tyler and Miki, and even Anastasia. In some cases I agree, or rather in ALL case I agree those add-ons should be available. But why ask about them or complain that they aren;t available? MAKE THEM and sell them (or give them away as you will)! Look at Shae and Candy for examples of how to make "morphs on top of Morphs", M4 and especially V4 have hundreds if not thousands of additional textures. Heck with the face room and the new Link with Zbrush it shouldn;t be a hard learning curve for many to develope.

This is an OPEN MARKET, not one that is already saturate as with the V and M figures! Jump on it and turn some of those ideas for missing items into offering rather than wait and (I don;t want to say complain because I think that's too strong a word) but comment on the missing elements or elements you;d like to see changed.

Please don;t take this as critisim, it's not meant in that way at all, but it is meant as a suggestion with hopes if prodding some people to start supporting the SM figures, either in their base forms or in the excellent morphs that Gabe has created Teyon has done some good work on Miki, but if you would like to see anything different or added, then DO IT! This is a chance to get into a market area that is virtually wide open, and the more that is made available to increase the attraction of these figures, the more people will jump on to support them. Don;t sit back and hope that some one else will make what you want to see.

Absolutely.

Anyone who has a problem with a figure should just buy $1000 worth of software, learn to use it, and make their own figure. I don't understand at all why any of us spends any money buying from other people when we can all just make all the stuff we need ourselves.

Ryan suffers from the Default Poser Male Strange Eye Syndrome

For some reason James, Simon and Ryan all have a very unrealistic and rare eyeshape which is not neutral enough for a base figure & this makes it really hard not to recognise on what figure a character is based on.

moriador,

I thought I was making it clear that I wasn;t "bashing" anyone, I was trying to point out that there is an opertunity opening up that could be mutually beneficial to creators and users.

the thing is no single creator, or even a small team can support a new, or majorly modified figure with every thing people want. But if enough people make even a small individual effort it can do wonders for the user base and maybe put a couple of bucks in someones pocket.

I guess I see this a little different. When I got into Poser there were only a handful of sellers, mostly it was scrounge for freebies or learn to make it your self or do without. I don;t think you need thousands of dollars. I work with silo which is a very reasonably priced software that included UV mapping and some sculpting tools (not in zbrush's class but very usable with a little effort). and I use UVMapper Pro which was in the range of $25 when I bought it I think the free version is floating around out there.

Again this isn;t criticism or bashing, I can well understand that you may not want to learn software or possibly don;t have the time, that's how those of us that do sell stuff make money, but you can also put your requests in the form of a request in the Wishlist Forum, something I try to look at about once a week or so (but I am terribly slow at making content since I get sidetracked playing with new features to frequently, and just today I crashed my working hard drive with most of my modeling and poser software so I'm now really out in the cold for a while).

Miki 4 is super cute; I'm pretty sure she'll be my go-to-Asian-girl if I can get some decent accessories for her. Her body morphs leave a bit to be desired, though...

GND Tyler with the Alex face morph is actually a good looking guy, though the default face is a bit off-putting.

Overall, I like them a lot. I hope they get better clothes support than Anastasia has so far...

True. I really shouldn't have used such strong language. I'm sure you weren't intending to bash, or even criticize, anyone. It's easy to become sensitive to the argument that we should just make stuff ourselves. Sometimes, when it's directed at those who are capable of contributing (as your post is), it's useful and even inspiring, but sometimes it's used as a way to put down those who don't create content. I've heard the argument so many times as a way to discount the opinions of mere users that I guess I'm a bit oversensitive. Mea culpa. Not your fault. I owe you an apology. I'm sorry.

I guess I don't know how to use WW properly. I thought I was pointing it at Tyler, since he was selected in the scene. When I asked it to analyse, it said there were no morphs to analyse, which I thought was strange.

Maybe Phil's site has some additional instructions that I need to read. I have only been using WW for a couple of weeks.

Quote - I guess I don't know how to use WW properly. I thought I was pointing it at Tyler, since he was selected in the scene.

I don't think you actually need to have Tyler in the scene any more.  Use the WW menu to choose what you want converted, and which figures to convert between.

One more from me. I'll post it here since I've saturated the other thread..heh.

Mihai Hair for Mike 3 I believe. Mike 3 hairs convert nicely to Tyler...only a little bit of scaling and moving and cleaning up with the morph brush. The only problem I had with this hair is it takes FOREVER to render in IDL. LOL.

BTW, I might mention that I hate the name Tyler. LOL. He seems more like a John or a Jim. LOL.

That's beautiful, Laurie.  Almost photoreal.

Quote - I downloaded both.. having problems installing them, though.  It keeps saying it doesn't 'see' Poser Installed on my system, and doesn't recognize it when I browse there, either!

grrr..

Do you have a "dummy" Poser.exe in your Poser files for DAZ Bitrock installers? I had to remove it before it would find Poser for me.
