Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
Been a whilke since I posted but I gotta vent a little about Victoria 5 and the direction Daz took with their latest figure.
What were they thinking?
There are numerous new figures out on the market (some free even) and for Daz to make Victoria 5 only native in Daz Studio? What????
Yes, yes I tried Daz Studio 1-2-3-4-Pro, but the later versions weren't that stable for my computer and I don't have time to wait for them to fix all the bugs. I bailed on D/S it wasn't worth the money they wanted and they upgraded it far too often when they did it wasn't a solid program.
I've pretty much flushed Daz, said goodbye to Victoria after 4.2 and I've been Daz free ever since.
I am not going to depend on any add on programs to use Daz figures, NOT GOING TO HAPPEN FOLKS.
Even if it's free for a limited time. I'm weening myself away from Daz.
I just want stuff that works when I load it in my Poser 9 runtime and when I surf a Poser site I want it to be straight forward and no nonsense. The Daz site is stupid too.
I feel better now, bye. I'm not even notifying if there is a reply.
Quote - > Quote - I'd be a fool not to grab something cool and free. If I choose to not use it, fine, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth!
#1 - I will never use it. I have no intention of inflating DAZ's "bragging rights" by adding to a download count when I have no use for it.
#2 - Because I disagree with you does NOT make me a fool. I would appreciate you not using such demeaning language again.
Why even post if you have no intention of using gensis ever and I'm pretty sure he wasn't referring to you, geez, some people.
Regards, Michael
I was not intending any slight at all towards anyone.
Genesis is just a 3d product, nothing more or less. It has some nift features I'd like o explore in poser, as well as having some issues I dislike.
But its FREE. There no good reason I can see not to explore what there is to offer.
I'm also wondering if some of the genesis exclusive features now are possible now natively in poser itself as a result of the collaberation. Poser content might now have the ability to replicate some of the genesis features.
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

I'm with you. I just don't see how more choices is a bad thing.

Ahhh I see it needs the new beta..cool. So the plugins still work from 4.5.0.114?
"Yes, it is TRUE! - DAZ 3D innovates again.
Working closely with Smith Micro, DAZ 3D has created a way for Poser users to seamlessly install and load the most popular Genesis figures such as Victoria 5 and Michael 5 into Poser"
I don't want to be negative here but isn't this a pretty poor attempt at saving face? I fail to see how it's now somehow "innovative" to do what they'd done for many years before Genesis. Daz3D could have saved the community a lot of grief by being innovative from the start instead of just being greedy
That being said, I don't see a reason not to try it out while it's free.
Good question. Dont think you need the Genesis essentials cause that comes with Daz4.5. Try installing just the other two and see if it works..
question..how does clothing poke through gets solved without the option to apply smoothing?
Quote - Heh, I'm just staring at the files to figure out what I need to install. Do I need all three packages installed if I have DS 4.5 currently installed? :) It doesn't happen much but I'm confused.
Well, someone from Daz on the forums DID say you HAVE to install the Genesis Essentials. Take that with a grain of salt or not. LOL. I took that to mean that it's needed somehow.
Laurie
But isn't that for those who don't have Daz? Makes no sense installing it twice unless it is different.
Quote - But isn't that for those who don't have Daz? Makes no sense installing it twice unless it is different.
Well, since DS is not required I'm thinking that they designed it thinking that you didn't have DS. So they're probably still needed.
Daz_bfurner on the Daz forums:
"Remember to download the new Genesis Starter Essentials files that include companion and core files. These are needed to run with this tool."

The Poser essentials files needs to be installed in a runtime, this extracts the genesis in case you don't have or don't want DS4 installed. You may want to install the newer version of the essentials if you don't have it as well.
I installed mine to a separate directory then in Poser added that runtime. Then you should be able to load genesis like you would a Gen4 character.
Edit: the Poser Essentials are basically dummy poser files that use python to call the genesis ones, so yes you need to install everything.
I understand this. The continual hype is distasteful to me personally too.

Poser has already been innovative. We are lucky to have some very talented people in this community and they have shown us what is possible this last year. To those people I am truly thankful. However, I'm sure there will be some more great things in store.
Quote - I agree but it I wonder if DAZ have done this because by making v5&M5 Genesis they alienated alot of people and and this has affected them because not enough people are wanting to use it instead working still on V4 bases.
Companies do things for business reasons. They obviously think this makes good business sense and are not acting out of charity or because they feel sorry for anyone in the community.
This is with a V4 texture by Fabiana. Now my G play ends and I'll be uninstalling. I'd rather support the wonderful characters we already have for Poser such as Anastasia, Miki 4, Tyler and Michelle and the other wonderful people who bring them to us.
Well, I uninstalled via control panel and now I get an error every time I fire up Poser. If I'd known it screwed with the Poser install I never would have installed it in the first place. I'm 'hoping' that removing a script will eliminate the error message, otherwise I guess it'll be a Poser re-install.

I uninstalled by just running the Dson Importer and installing to another directory outside of Poser. It asks if you want to uninstall it. Then I went into Main Poser DirectoryRuntimePythonaddons and manually removed the dson folder. Because I installed the other two files to a separate runtime all I had to do was to remove it from the Library and then delete the folder.
I've also just gone into the Control Panel and removed it from the Programs. It then deleted the second folder so it has all gone! :)
Hmm. Sounds like to get to Poser Heaven, you have to spend some time in purgatory first. ;-)
I "bought" this plugin, but haven't downloaded it yet. Think I'll wait until the early bugs are squashed.
They said at DAZ that the DS materials wouldn't work, but I imagine anyone who wanted the DS materials would just use DS.
Hmmm. Does EZSkin work with Genesis?
Hmm. Still getting errors on firing up Poser. This is beyond infuriating. Genesis is just another figure, a nice one, but just another figure to me. It is not worth this hassle just trying to uninstall it. Am I going to have to re-install Poser to get it to open properly?? I'm gonna make a voodoo doll, name it "Daz", and pound nails in to it now. lol.
So if you import Gen once, and save off as a CR2, then you don't need to use the importer again and you have a standard Poser CR2 character (yes or no?)
If yes, can you then apply Gen5 moprhs to the figure after you load into your scene (yes or no?)
As far as the comment about cloth room support, my experience with Poser has been you load a prop and it will colliade against anything including primitives. So if you have the mesh in Poser......I can't logically see a reason why a cloth item would not work on the mesh...or said another way a mesh is a mesh and it shouldn't care.

Quote - So if you import Gen once, and save off as a CR2, then you don't need to use the importer again and you have a standard Poser CR2 character (yes or no?)
Yes, but ....
The cr2 version will only have the morphs in it you had when you saved it. There's no way outside the importer to 'add' more morphs if you then buy a Genesis morph pack.
Genesis doesn't use injection morphs, old style or pmd, and the morphs are only in the DAZ .dsf format. When you load Genesis - in DS, or in Poser via the importer - the folders containing the Genesis morphs (each of which is in a .dsf file in a data folder alongside the runtime) are scanned and the morph channels, channel groups and ERC are created on the fly as part of the load/import process. So when you buy and install a morph pack, the install drops the .dsf morph files into the data folder and next time you load Genesis in DS or import into Poser, the new Genesis appears with the new morphs in alongside those you previously had.
So after installing new GEnesis morphs your previously saved Genesis cr2 will not get the new morphs in and there's no way provided to 'inject' the new morphs into that Genesis. But if you import Genesis again, the new Genesis WILL have the new morphs in.
DAZ wanted to get away from injecting morphs as they get no end of support grief from newbs who don't understand it.
Quote - I can load V4 textures on this Genesis but not M4 :-/
There's no immediate control for switching between the various Genesis UV sets. It has to be in the preset/MATpose you apply. I think that if you apply the Jeremy sample materials that are in the new DAZ content that installed with genesis, it will switch Genesis's UVs to the M4 UVs, and then you can apply any normal M4 Poser materials you have.
bummer.. I get a pop up error dialog.
Reloaded the two exe files and then the 64 bit dson utility.
No go.
Any ideas?
Poser2012 64bit WIN, used default paths for the three installs.

I see the python scripts in the 2012 python addon folders. Manually calling the scripts producess "can't find errors" of

It works, thank you!
Fixed... at least no more start up errors.
Now trying to load figure.
For those that are getting these dll load failed errors, but are sure they installed right, I think you may want to install one or both of the following and report if it fixes it for you for the benefit of all:

Note that there are also Kids 4 uvs, alongside the V4 and M4 ones, in the Genesis starter essentials. And then various other products (like V5, M5, Hitomi and assorted monsters) will add other custom UV sets that Genesis can be switched to with appropriate materials.
All the best.

Do you realize what this means????? Now I need to V5, new content, new textures, oh my, oh my I am in such a daze LOL!!!!!!!!
Here's a pic with Basic Child and Hitomi at .5 - its great that we have new kids in Poser that can fit in most clothing items (using discretion of course, some outfits are just not meant for kids).
...faith, trust and pixiedust
Thanks to everyone involved at Daz and Poser, and all the helpful people here. Saw this earlier today, but Daz's website had some problems. (Maybe too many people trying to download at once?) Will give it a spin. I had purchased a bit of Genesis content, only to find I still can't get a handle on the Daz system. Hope this solves the problem.
No one has mentioned, does this use Snarlygribbly's work? When I saw that, I thought we had crossed a threshhold. Again, thanks to everyone here.

I wish there was a tutorial video or some screen shots or something--I guess I'll have to download it and check it out. More renders please--screen shots, etc. Frankly I'm surprised that DS materials will work in Poser. How long is this going to be free--I'd like to avoid the feeding frenzy and wait a few days before getting it.
