In DS go "Edit > Preferences" and in the window that opens select the Content Library tab (last one on the right). Under "Replacement Management" change the "Always replace items of the same Content type" to "Never replace items, regardless of the Content type", click Apply then Accept.

Alternatively, you can just make sure you don't have anything selected when you load the second copy of the figure - clicking a blank area of the viewport will do the job.

Are you loading the Genesis file from the people folder, with nothing in the scene selected?

no, I haven't done that...when you open it, of course there is already a doll loaded, but I don't know how to load another one...I'll try seeing if I can load it from the people folder...if I can't...i'll be back for help

Just click on an area of the view port (the window showing the initial figure) that doesn't have anything in it, or if you have the Scene pane open with Genesis highlighted hold down the ctrl key (cmd on a Mac) and click on the Genesis entry to unselect it.
