Subject: New Features in Vue 11 and How They are Used

Instead of discussing what Vue doesn't do, can people who are actually using the pre-release discuss aspects of the new features as Mazak did in another post? I would like some help on creating rain in a still image. I cannot get it to show up no matter how I set the sliders. I believe I must be doing something wrong unless it only works with animation. Since I tried a number of combinations of settings, I cannot post what settings I used here. If someone has successfully used it, could you post your settings and information?

Have not played with rain much yet. But here is an example of flowing water made with particles. It uses collision with the primitives to guide the flow and metablobbing to generate a smooth water mass. Works pretty well.

Won't have this till Vue 11 Complete comes out, so I have a question. Are these new features only available for animation or can you use them in still images as well?

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

The rain was for a still image.

Particles and weather effects can be used in still renders. However, you might have to set up an animation in order to get the effect you want (flowing water or rising smoke for example).

Where I had gone wrong in creating rain was in not setting up an  animation. After seeing Mazak's screen capture I did and that solved my problem.

I'm glad I can help.
Another cool feature for rain: If you inside a house and you want look through the window, turn on collision for the roof and rain so there is no rain inside the house.

This seems great!  Are there options to create other systems than rain or snow? As in can you change the snowflakes to, for example, leaves?

The two weather effects that are accessed through the atmosphere editor are "fixed". However, they are just an implementation of the particle system itself. You can set up a partcle emitter in the sky and have anything blowing around you want: leafs, rocks, elephants, cows...  One really nice featire of Vue's particle system is that you are not limited to specific emitters, any material can be turned into a particle source by assigning an ecosystem layer and activating particle motion. Pretty nifty.

##### I played last night with a little gem in Vue 11 that I have not seen mentioned much, but that I find incredibly useful: Global Layers. Basically you can assign a layer in a material as global and then add it to any other material. Once added editing any parameter of the global layer will be applied to all material that share the layer. Think about mud, snow, dirt on buildings, moss on rocks, dirt, blood, sweat on figures with many textures. This is great time saver. You can have many independent global layers and the scale, alphaboost and environment effects stay individually adjustable. Here is a simple example: Several spheres with different textures, all share a global snow layer. I changed the color map in one and presto, the snow on all turned to moss...

When I started I thought I was going to be reporting bugs that they didn't work but its just a case of finding settings that have an effect.  Some have a big effect with very small settings (eg lean) while others need very big settings (eg move) to have an effect.  And then there are magnets that need a special rig to show working hence why I'll do that as its own video.

I agree, some sliders for example have very low value ending, they become only useful when you put high numeric values in it.

If you load a particle object it has by default 1 kg mass. That need a lot force to move the objects. Its all a game with balance.
