Thanks to Rendo, I just got a great deal on Poser 9, so I’ll be installing that to replace P7, which I’m currently using.

But, before I do, I wanted to get some tips—especially about my current runtime.

If I just straight instll P9, will it leave the P7 runtime alone?  Can I just install and then point to the existing runtime in the new P9 library?

Is there anything special I should do to protect the original runtime?  Should I leave it where it is (P7)?  Should I move it somewhere?

Anything else I should know or be wary of.

I’m running a Win7 PC with 4g of ram & some kind of standard graphics card, nothing fancy.

You can point to the Poser 7 runtime. Just be advised that if you run Windows Vista/7/8 that UAC will apply, so do not install content to your Poser runtime if you have UAC turned on. During the install it will create a content runtime in your Documents folder.

You can either move the Poser 7 runtime or leave it where it is if you think you may still want to use it from time to time. Poser 9 will not overwrite your Poser 7 install. You can point to it where ever it is.

What is UAC?  And am I likely to have it turned on without knowing it?

UAC is User Account Control and if you don't know what or where it is, it's already on ;). It's on by default. It's meant to keep bad programs and viruses from writing to anything in your Program Files (x86) and Programs (x64) folders.

If it puts my (new) runtime in documents, is that a problem?

On the old one, I installed Poser 7 directly on C-drive, avoiding the UAC, I guess.

Obviously, I don't want UAC or anything screwing up P9, but I do want to try and keep this install simple.

I haven't had any trouble with P7, but no sense buying trouble down the line.

Do yourself a favor.
Do the default install, and yes it will put the P9 Runtime in "my documents".
Thats good.

Poser9 will create its own runtime to work in c/program files. Do not touch that one.

Your P9 content will be in your "My docuents" folder.
And yes you can link to your P7 runtime, no problems there.
