Subject: Reality Render thread. A new beginning.

Quote - I have the Real Gels for Reality. I tried to use them and got a message that there's a file I don't have that DS needs. That's probably because I had uninstalled and moved up to the latest version of DS.

The message said that I should reinstall Real Gels. OK, I have the installer. But, there are still Real Gels files on my computer, in the Documents folder (Macintosh user). So, do I just trash those files? That is, how do I remove or uninstall Real Gels before I reinstall Real Gels?

Sure, just move the directory with the files to the trash. Just make sure that the new installation is in your DAZ configuration.

Cheers.

Have the new version of Reality, and Lux 1.1. Render is doing OK. But, in the new Lux, isn't there supposed to be a "Brush" that one can use to paint over an area of the scene that one wants to get special treatment? How do I access that brush?

OK, I had a slight issue with my slave drive crashing after 257 hours, so I had to start again from scratch. (I was not happy to say the least...) I am doing no more on this.

Final full size render after another 375 hours to 15k56s/p. bloom and vignetting in render, and some chromatic abberation added as described in the comment here... http://fav.me/d5lh15d (Lux seems to do Lateral Aberration only - i.e. gives no effect centrally, but increases towards the edge)

I then noticed that there was still one part that had gone black, but hopefully it is not too obvious... And set the tube rack to glass, as could not dform properly the last download...

I did add one of John's candles, hopefully that counts as adding a light rather than an object? ...and one flash of scaled down lightning to the plasma globe. All links to the lightning, John's candles etc in the linked description above.

Time to start something else I think...

Fantastic!  Sparkling clean and vivid detail.  Worth the time?  I don't know if I'd go anywhere near that long, but it sure does look good.

I will mention just one niggle that I have, and that's the texture on the rat . . . unless he's morphing in and out of another dimension, and we're not seeing all of him at the moment.  ;-)

thanks RFreise and 59burst... I must admit I did not spend much time on the rat, I simply had the eyes set to glass, the teeth to glossy, and the body set to a dark velvet... I could have looked at fur textures, but as it was I got side tracked by the books! Its a fair comment tho... I also think that the modelling of the rat looked a bit cartoonish, certainly a bit strange for a real rat with the size of the teeth and the feet! `¬) - maybe a bit of further playing I may have come up with something... perhaps I'll look at adding a rat to my next scene? ;)

This is impressive mbin.

Since I started this "challenge" I just wanted to thank everybody who partecipated or just tried to "get a stab at this." :)

I realize that I didn't provide the easiest modelk to work with, but I could not do more work on it because of the development schedule with Reality 3 for Poser.

I think that this render challenge has proven very useful. For a few people it was a new experience to start with an OBJ file and build a scene, instead of using a made-for-Studio model. I hope that they enjoyed the experience.

If you consider this "experiment" positive I would love to try it again at some point. I will work the kinks out and provide an easier to use model. Maybe we can do this in January, if you are interested.

Thanks again for all the great renders.

That and I've been trying to learn blender here and there. I've just got my hands arond moving the camera and rotating objects. Sloooow learning... I have been really impressed at its versatility with importing other modeler formats.

Bob, I finally understand your pain as I decided to try out studio 4.5 and reality 2.5. The shaders do indeed disappear, even if the scenes were saved in the duf format prior to merging. Thankfully its not a Reality issue, its definitely a studio issue, as my test renders with shaders saved in separate folder libraries worked fine.

Acsel on the other hand isn't liking 4.5 or something in the works, as I tried to load shaders from awhile back and something put a chokehold on my rig. Everything outside of studio works fine, but the hard drive sounds like someone dumped a pint of rocks into a blender. =(

Paolo, if you happen to see this, I'm not sure if its an isolated issue with this particular image, but it looks like Reality is putting displacement maps into the bump slot and loosing the bump map altogether. (post acsel loading)

For the image I'm working now, I was using the Faded Industry warehouse model from Daz and the preset shaders in ACSEL. Studio became unresponsive for quite some time, but I let it finish as I hadn't saved my mat settings yet and really really didn't want to lose them (several hundred as usual).

I went and made brownies, then came back after 40 minutes to check the progress. Studio finished/caught up, then I went back to the materials tab to see what was going on, if an MLIE image snuck in (there are none) which has been the only thing that slows Reality noticeably for me.

I closed Reality, saved my scene, then reopened all and checked the materials tab. Not sure if the ACSEL settings took hold, but the maps were all over the place in the modifier tab, as well as the slider themselves. I'll grab a screenie for you in a sec.

Edit: Brownie making fully optional ;-)

SBT, I'm not sure I understand the issue.

If you can please post a bullet list of steps like this:

  • load model XYZ

  • apply texture X

  • call Reality

  • this shows there but it should be this other

If you can verify if the problem happens with other combinations it would be great. I don't have the Faded Industry model.

Thanks.

Here's a quickie Paolo. Just as a testament to my belief that this is a Studio issue, that little grey guy under the reality window is supposed to be a Genesis figure (looking like the bones figure minus the skin texture!). Loaded up like that right after saving and closing. Been getting more error bugs with this 4.5 version than its worth.

I'll have to check back on this a bit later; it was my first scene after intalling 4.5 though, and thus far it looks like I'll be going back to 4.0 later today. I'm headed to bed momentarily. Been up with the kiddo all day yesterday and all night. Sleep be my sacrificial lamb x-/

It could also be an issue with the ACSEL shader. ACSEL does give you the ability to remap the textures from one field to the other so, if the author has done that then you will see this kind of result.

I still have issues with merging. Quite often in something like the makeshift sci if set I posted a few pages back when I merge a character that was saved as a scene one of the shelters loses all its Reality settings while the other one does not. My plane also goes back to full gloss. Sometimes fingernails setting will jump to another figure. Im sort of used to working with it. Merging has never worked quite right (for me anyhow) since 4.5 & 2.5.

I don't know what it is.  Maybe it's clean living or something; but, I've had not one issue with 4.5 other than they way they hosed the locations of the genesis shaping morphs for the head and face.  Integration with reality has been flawless.  Then when using Lux, I can go cpu only or hybrid and still have no issues at all.  My one issue with lux is that if you close it out or it crashes while a network render is going on; sometimes the slaves don't reset.  After building this big(ger) computer; my sole issue is why I'm not getting the same render speed as other folks are getting with mesh lights.  Fastest I've had it going so far is 350k s/s with an ibl.  Is it how I've got my materials set up?  Is it lighting?  It's it a ram issue?  I usually get about 150k s/s with an ibl and around 70k s/s with mesh lights.  If I try to do a really busy ambitious scene; I'm back down to 10-15k s/s.

This started out as a DOF screw up (forget to change the focus when I moved the camera) but I liked the effect so I messed with the lighting to accentuate it.

What's the best option for making my own terrain that I can use in Daz?  I have an idea for a desert scene but don't have a desert, so I attempted to make something in Bryce and failed miserably.  I'm trying to learn that program but it hurts my brain it's so user unfriendly (compared to Daz).

I grabbed Terragen and it makes some nice images that can be used as a background, but no way to place it in Daz.

Vue looks amazing, btu I have no idea what the learning curve is on that.

Suggestions?

Infinito plug in. It generates obj terrains in DS that you can use to render with Reality. It's also very user friendly with lots of tutorials and presets like desert, snow, mountains.

I was gonna ask why I was having problems with the new Reality update, but it turns out I haven't updated DS :P
