Subject: Noobee Question

I am frustrated trying to figure so I figue I would post teh question

 

I am trying to set up a pose and simply trying to rotate the hips on my figure. When I selct the hips and try and rotation or movement the  entire figure moves as if I have selected the body of the figure.

 

Is ther ea way to unlock this or simply rotate the hips? I turn on IK and it seems to work but the figure gets very distorted?

Hip with no ik will simply move the body. It was preferred in early versions of Poser because the BODY actor did not save in poses. (its now optional)

IK on will lock the feet in place , the calf and thighs will adjust as the hip moves. You can tweak them if its distorted. (IK calculates a solution which may not be what you want, so move the thigh to fix it)

The only other option is to move the hip and then adjust the feet manually. That sucks if you are animating.

Yep, for basic posing, like tilted hips....tilt hips (i.e. whole body) then adjust back the thighs, abdomen and chest.

Thanks, I really did look everyplace on the interface and google searched thinking I missed something :-)

 

That seems like something Smith Micro should change IMO

Hello,

Your question is not precise enough. If you are thinking for the rotation about the x axis, try my Free Pelvic tilt morph (see link above). The pelvis (hip) can be rotated relative to the abdomen-trunk and thighs. Include with the morph package is a pdf document that explain in detail how to implant the pelvic tilt in any figures either by using the rotate dials, a helper bone  or morphing.

Hi 

If you are talking about the whole body rotating, feet and all then make sure that you set the figure to use Inverse Kinematics for the Right and Left foot.

Then when you rotate the hips the feet will stay planted and the figure will twist normally.

The upper body will move with the hips as it would in real life.

Zenny1234. What figure do you pose?

Your question is probably related to the rotation of the hip in space, mainly about the x axis. In reality, it is a rotation of the pelvis in space relative to thigh axis as in my pelvic tilt morph. As 3doutlaw said, the only way to do that is to rotate the hip in space (and all the body parts in fact) and repose the abdomen and thigh parts after. It is possible to design a master dial to do the rotation in hip in space, but you have to take in consideration two factors: 1) You should not rotate the body or hip in space about the y axis and z axis. Why, because the body and hip axis are fixed in space, they don't rotate with the body. 2) The axis of rotation of the hip or body is not at the same location as the axis of the thighs. This determines translation of the thigh parts and corrective adjustments are necessary either in the translation of the body or in the magnitude of thigh rotation.

If look to the tutorial include in my free package, you will find link to threads that address indirectly this problem.

Hope that my suggestion is not too technical.
