Subject: Another question for DAZ users.

Mimic.  That enigmatic but oh so useful program that allows the actors to talk and move their mouths.  Except mine isn't, to my... dispair.  I am using the gen 4 figures in DAZ 3.1, and frankly... I am stumped.  I think I am doing all I should be doing with these characters, IE exporting what should be, importing what should, and all of that, but the Michael 4 figure does not want to do it.  His head moves and such, but his mouth doesn't.  Is there any way to fix this?

In order to go forward, one must often times look to the past.

Make sure your figure has the speech morphs, a minimum of "OpenLips" morph on the head.

Have you tried using the "Lipsync" plug-in included in Daz3 on your figures?  (in Tabs->Lipsync)  If it works there, it should work in Mimic.

Another thing to check for is the .DMC file usually included with speech-capable figures.

I use this all the time without much issue.  The main thing is make sure the figure supports speech morphs in the first place. Not all do.

Well, thats the thing.  I'm using M4, so it should, at the very least.  The people who make the millenium series don't mess around and do things halfway.  Its set up for speach morphs, but when I load the DMC file for the M4, or heck even the V4 models, it doesn't want to work.

EDIT:  Okay, would certain morph targets alter the parameters of the model?  I have the Morph++ injected into the figure at the very start.

In order to go forward, one must often times look to the past.

No, as long as you see the "OpenLips" morph on the head it should work.

Here's an old V4 example using Mimic with V4 I did a while back as a test:

I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I use both Daz and Poser, and I try to purchase content that will work on both, but it seems there is much more poser content to choose from. In the Renderosity's Market Place if a product does not specifically state that it works on DAZ should I assume that it will not work on Daz?

Most Poser content will load fine in DS, the issue is whether the content has Poser specific shaders applied to it or not.In these cases, replacing the Poser Material room shaders with a DS shader should work.  I have done this on many occassions.

Check with the vendor to be sure.

Like animajikgraphics said, a lot of the Poser content will work in DS. Figures that are weightmaped for Poser 9/2012 won't work in DS, and materials based on Poser shaders only (no texture map) won't work (or at least work well). If you have doubts, you can usually ask here about a specific product and people will help.

Oh, I almost forgot, quite often reading the product reviews can help as well, a DS user will often write a review and say if it works well in DS or not.

Thank you. Can you refer me to some source material or tutorials on Shaders. To be honest I don't know how to replace Poser Material room shaders with a DS shader.

a ds shader show up in your my library under presets and shaders labels.

you use them the same way you do mat pose/changing textures.

select the item in the scene tab, and in the surface tab then select the shader and apply.

an example would be:

jewlery that comes with poser metal shaders.

the poser ones wont work so you would apply a ds metal shader to the item instead.

fabinas jewlery here is this way.

the actuall jewlery props work in ds but not the shaders and materials created for it as there for poser, but ds users can still use the item, by replacing those shaders with others in ds.

Thank you I will experiment with this. I confess I still am uncertain about how to go about it. In the SURFACE tab are the Shaders found by clicking next to the Diffuse slider to bring up a long list of textures? Otherwise, I do not know where to locate the shaders in DS' Surface Tab.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Mon, 11 February 2013 at 3:45 PM

You would look in the presets tab of the Surfaces pane, which would show shaders known to Smart Content. They are also available through the Content Library and Smart Content panes, like other content. Applying a shader requires that you have both the object(s) and the surface(s) you wish to apply it to selected, unlike pose or materials presets which need only the object(s) selected.

The shaders are the sum of the components on the Surface tab

SickenlySweete ( ) posted Wed, 13 February 2013 at 11:04 PM

to make it really simple:

look under your my library content you will see folders that say things like  presets/shader presets folders

shader are in those, you apply them to an item by selecting the item in the scene tab and the surface tab

then selecting the shader you wish applied.
