Subject: Genesis starter essentials goes where?

wayneout ( ) posted Fri, 28 December 2012 at 12:03 PM · edited Wed, 12 February 2025 at 6:09 PM

Hello, just got Poser 9. Installed the DSON importer into Poser 9. Now,
I want to install the essentials. The installer wants to install both files
(a trx file and a poser cf file) into studio.  I thought these files went into
my poser content files (which is located under "my documents")
I read the document file but I am still not sure where to put these files.

Thanks, Bill

Bump.

Maybe I'm just a bit dull, but those instructions are a little bit on the arcane side to me. Can someone break it down so it's a little clearer as to where specific elements need to be installed please?

I install ALL of my genesis installations, into a new runtime I created just for Genesis.  That's the DAz Studio files, the DSON files and poser core files.  In my case it's in my documents in a folder called Genesis Runtime.  I stick everything in there, it is seperate from my Gen4 and older Gen3 and prior runtimes so I can easily sort and locate items.

That seems to work well for me without any errors.

Yep. Best is to keep this in a seperate runtime. Just link it to Poser.

Thanks for the answers. I went to the website listed before I posted
and the instructions about what folder to put them in was confusing to
me. I have my Poser 9 content folder under "My Documents" and was
planning on putting them there. That is where I put the first download.
But the installer wants to install the essentials into daz studio. (which is
also under "My Documents"   I was thinking of just installing the essentials
in both places. I don't know if that would work or not.

There's no treason to double-up - if you already have DS installed I'd suggest installing the Companion files to its content folder, and then point Poser to that (DAZ 3DStudioMy Library or whatever you used). Not having two different sets of the files saves space and makes updates easier.
