Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 14 10:48 am)
That looks great. How did you do the neon signs in Poser? I tried making some a while ago using After Effects, but it was rather complicated...

They are pretty easy to make, bring a photo of the neon sign into photoshop isolate the colors with the color wand and convert the selection outline to a path. Then export the path as an adobe illustrator file. I use Carrera 8 Pro and bring the AI file into the spline modeler as a cross section. Convert that to a vertex object, tweak the thickness etc. and then bring that into ZBrush and use smoothing to round off the shapes so they look like tubes.
Then bring it into Poser assign different colors to the appropriate letters etc and crank up the ambient setting to 5 or 6, also make sure it is set as a light emmitter, PP 2012 or poser9
I'll experiment with the ambient node, thanks Vilters. Chris, you look pretty expert in this work. I dont have Carrera or ZBrush but I'll go back into Photoshop and AE, see if I can make something that will combine with Poser's ambient node...
Your work on this scene, Chris, is meticulous, beautifully done...

Good for PC screens, TV screens, neon lights, candles, and so on.
Left PC has the same texture, but only in diffuse_color.
Right PC has the texture in ambient at 2. => The 2 can go real high :-)

Apologies if I've shown/you've seen this pic before. I posted some images of these props in another thread at an earlier stage of progress. These are all pretty simple objects and they all use parts of a larger texture atlas. I've had lots of silly little problems working on this, especially with backside poly removal removing oblique but very visible polygons. Now I'm trying to solve the lightleak around the bottom of the vending machine. I thought hiding a cube inside would help, but the IDL still leaks. It seems pretty apparent to me that poser likes dense meshes and has a hard time with sharp edges and thin triangles (among oher things). Still, I like the look of pure IDL (no actual lights used in the pic) though it can be somewhat slow to render.
I am getting specularity from the objects by using raytraced reflections. Reflection strength and softness are key, so lots of area rendering to get this looking as it does.
