Hi all,

I have a problem I can't get solved on my own. I hope anyone can help me.

I purchased IDL Studio Master wich is very versatile and produces very good results. But if you take a look at the attached image there is a problem with shadow and reflection ond the floor. This is most probably no problem from IDL Studio Master but from the floor's material settings I have attached also.

What can I do to get propper shadows and not this unnatural glow and spots?

Any help greatly appreciated

Looks like too much Ambient occlusion.  Check your lights to see if AO is on for some reason and also if default exclusion for AO in materials when IDL is being used is overridden

It also looks like you have ambient_value turned up too high for figure material

Also, if there are any emitters at all in the lights, there will be crappy shadows. SM hasn't fleshed out the emitters and their shadows in this version of Poser. Hopefully they will in the next version ;).

If there are emitters, you can try turning IDL quality the whole way up (there we be a big increase in render time) and turning IR caching for IDL off. You could also increase the samples (using the Render Firefly script included with Poser).

As for your floor, I can tell you that you need to turn off Reflection KD Lite Multi. It multiplies thru the lights and shouldn't be used at all in modern versions of Poser. I don't know why they even still include it.

If you're using Poser 9 / 2012 , Select the Body of your figure, go to the properties tab, and uncheck 'Light Emitter', and give that a try.  Your figure itself is whats causing the glow if 'Light Emitter' is checked.

Consider me insane if you wish, but is your reality any better?

Thank you all. The clue was the "Light Emitter".

I disabled it for the Figure and the effect was very much weakened. I disabled it for the floor, too, but then the lighting was to dark.

I think I can fix the rest in Photoshop.

Thank you very much

If I remember correctly, I hope BagginsBill be merciful with me, the only real problem is that the IDL to 1 is too high, should be 0.5 or less.
In this way there's nothing to disable.

The real issue is that the PoserSurface Diffuse_value is wacky.  To match correctly with IDL, you would need to set diffuse_value to 0.15 on all materials. Not very practical.   The work around, either set the material diffuse_values to 0.8 and increase your lights to 800% with IDL or set the Render IDL Value to anywhere between 0.1 to 0.3 from the default 1.
