Hello members,

I am a new user of Poser and new to the 3D art world. I would like to know if I can convert a jpeg file to a Poser file. Is this possible?

If you are asking if you can use a jpeg as a texture image within Poser then the answer is yes you can, no conversion required.

If however you have a picture of a figure/character/object and want to see that as a 3D model you will need to first create it (probably from scratch) in a 3D modeling application.

Generally Poser is used to manipulate and animate 3D models rather than create them.

Would you be able to post a copy of the jpeg to this thread? That way folks may be able to help you better.

I've been doing some research and it seems that there are softwares that help you transpose pictures into 3D objects. Do you know which are the most user friendly / efficient?

I have a picture of a dog and I would like to create a character with it. Maybe it would be simpler to use an existing model and modify it. Is that feasable?

I see that I'm not very clear... perhaps because I know nothing about this stuff! (by the way, can you tell me if there is a good tutorial somewhere?)

Question: In Poser, there are models in the library. Seems that these models (example: Alyson hair) are not modifiable. You can put it on the frame, put you cannot change its structure. Am I right?

Question: If I take a 3D picture (with 3Dsome, let's say), would I be able to import it in Poser and then modify it?

The poser question - long time since I used it, and couldn't really tell you. Try the poser forum.

The 3dsom - My guess it will cost money. As I understand it you send them a picture and they send you back a mesh to import into poser (possibly)

The models created from these 2D to 3D programs are crap.  They may work for a static prop but not for a posable figure.  The topology is a mess that would bend in horrible ways.  Either find an exceptable Poser figure or learn to model, UV map, texture and rig.

There are some helpful tutorials on YouTube for Poser. I've been floundering with Poser also. I like the program, but finding useful info for it isn't easy. If you can, pick up the tutorial on Renderosity by fugazi1968 called 'Poser from Beginner to Advanced'. It's expensive, but it's on sale right now until March 15. It's easy to follow and covers everything well.

fugazi1969 also has great tuts for Silo 2.4 if you're looking for a good modelling program. Silo is not free, but it's lower on the price scale, and one of the most "user-friendly" in my opinion. YouTube has some good base-level tuts for this program as well. I can finally say that I'm enjoying modeling now with this program, and it works well with Poser.
