Subject: Apollo's clothes don't conform any more

I haven't used Apollo Maximus for some time now, although I did in the past and I like him. I tried using him in a render today and I get this strange behaviour with his clothes. When I just load them in without conforming, they fit perfectly. But as soon as I conform them, there is severe distortion around the right shoulder and also around the feet. I never had this before.

I reinstalled the figure from my downloaded file, but it made no difference. It doesn't just happen with this outfit, but apparently all his clothes are affected.

Any suggestion on how to get him working again would be much appreciated.

you have to check "Match endpoints when conforming"

WandW ( ) posted Wed, 06 March 2013 at 3:47 PM

I had noticed that too, Nanette.  Odd that it's only on the right side.

I recall that Chocolate notes that either Haru or Natu (or perhaps both) doesn't work properly in Poser 9/PP2012.  I don't know what the issue there is...

I also encountered this.  Just figured I'd screwed something up.  I'll try out the match endpoints thing next time.

Well, if nothing else, the old boy still renders beautifully in Daz Studio.  Can't say there are many figures who have held up this well over the years.

As far as I can tell his clothing is not affected in DS 4.5 as in PP2012. Using the UberEnvironment Lighting brings out his good qualities.

There was an old method the figure creator mentioned several times in the past:

Do not conform after loading in zero position.

Pose Apollo, then copy Apollo's pose to the clothing.  The scaling poses would also be copied, if the clothes were design for Apollo.

You're at the mercy of the Fates, if otherwise.  I have had a terrible time with converted clothing from other figures.  The upper arms could never be correctly converted.

Match endpoints does not solve the problem. I am using clothes that worked perfectly before. I wonder if this problem started with one of the recent Poser service packs?

I took Apollo into the setup room to look at his bones, I noticed that even in the zero pose, the collar bone is out of position. Something wrong with the rig.

I found a workaround of sorts. I used figure - symmetry left to right and copied the joint zone also, and now shirts conform properly. You have to do this before conforming the clothes. I never had this issue before.

The shoes are still a mess though. I think the rig is damaged in the feet as well, but I don't know enough about rigging to see what is wrong for myself. I don't think I have the skill to fix the feet.

Here is a screen capture from the setup room showing the difference between the left and right side in the bones. That accounts for the distortion on garments that cover the upper body.

I think something happened to your Apollo. This is what my copy looks like. Also clothes will conform properly when I click "Match endpoints ...", including shoes.

I'm using PoserPro 2012 SR 3.1, win 7 64-bit.

Edited to add that my Apollo version is called !ApolloMaximus2005

I think my version of Apollo dates from 2007. Otherwise our systems are similar. I went back to earlier backups of my downloads they are the same as the one I am using now, and also have the same problem.

My Apollo rig looks like yours in PP2012, Nanette.  I think I downloaded it in 2008, and the file is !ApolloMaximus.cr2

I looked at bit further in my Apollo runtime and it turns out that I have another version called  !ApolloMaximus from March 2007. His bones look exactly like in your image above, but the clothes behave properly when I use "Match end points ..." after conforming them.

WandW ( ) posted Thu, 07 March 2013 at 10:44 AM

Mine does work with Match Endpoints checked on the PoserWorld clothes I used the last time I used him...

Ah, Marianne, I get it now. I wasn't doing the "match endpoints" thing correctly. Now it works. Thank you so much.

I just loaded him up in Poser 8 and the rig looks the same, so it is something with the CR2.

When I loaded Apollo in p8 everything worked fine. Rig mirrored each other. Loaded that scene in pp12 and it was fine. Loaded a second apollo into the scene and the shoulder was messed up. So it looks like it has to do with the way the latest versions of poser are reading the cr2
