Subject: Creating Characters In Daz Studio

celticfire ( ) posted Sun, 10 March 2013 at 8:44 PM · edited Wed, 18 December 2024 at 8:08 PM

Hi guys, so recently I've decided to explore creating my own characters again. I've tried a while back and found it entertaining but ultimately it was my own limited knowledge of DS that caused me to stop. Now I want to pick it back up again, but seems I've misplaced all my links to the tuts. I've just got my hands on Deltax's Inj/Rem plugin for DS 3.1, but can't seem to work out the details about how exactly to use this. I want to take the morphs I have made in DS and save them as an INJ, so I will no longer have to constantly reload the same scene with my m4 character inside. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I have a character I want to do the same thing with so I will bump this thread in the hopes of a reply. I would ideally like to be able to save it as a pz2 file, but I do not think it possible within studio. That said, a studio equivelant that will allow me to reload a created character repeatedly would be just as effective. I want to put the presets in a group of folders for use in case I have to reinstall at a later date. Similar to what vendors do when we purchase characters from the marketplace. Any help would be appreciated.

p.s. Ideally I prefer to save it using Studio 3.2 as I do most of my work in that version of studio, and that will only change when I am able to upgrade to a full working version of Victoria 5. Even then, it will be difficult for me to justify the switch since I own so much content for Victoria 4. But one can never tell what the future might bring.

Not sure what you are really lookking for, and this isn't my area.  However, rigging is the big concern I think;

V5 is fully working near as I can tell.  The only annoying thing is that V5 skins aren't backwards compatible to V4.

There are videos on how to bone and morph clothes as well.

**Also, you can use all of your V4 with V5. ** Full transfers of clothes complete with morphs can be done in Daz.  If that's not enough, you can get better movement morphs and FBM support from Sickle Yield.

http://www.daz3d.com/sickle-rigging-and-morphing-system

Note: that those clothes were an SOB to get working even with V4.  I've been able to get even the naughtiest of morphing V4 skirts to work with V5 or even Genesis Trolls.  (Of course the more extreme the morph the odder it looks like.)

Autofit is really hit or miss, but if you just transfer the morphs and weight mapping over it'll work like a charm.

**The only other issue I've had with autofitstransfers, has been displacement mapping. ** New geometries may generate inappropriate overlaps that aren't always visible until render. With Genesis if you see poke through during render, you can use "Poke-Away" to thin out the geometry, or double check those pesky displacement maps.

I'll look into the links you posted, but what I am basically after is how to save the presets so studio recognizes them. Also a way to save the mat files etc. in a folder specific to my characters new morphs. That way I can put it in a zip file and use it at a later date if I have to do a clean start on my system for any reason. *shrugs, I know most vendors use poser to create .pz2 files, and I am uncertain as to the difference between pz2 and daz's dsb files. But my last attempt to save character presets isn't recognizable in studio 3.2 for some reason. *shrugs, studio 4 runs slow on my system for some reason, so I am not particularily happy with the software, that and I am used to the older versions of studio. They're easy to use, run clean most of the time, etc. Genesis may well be the better platform, but I'm unemployed and cannot afford to invest in the Victoria 5 morphs, let alone Aiko 5 or Steph 5, so I'll be sticking to v4 for now. I appreciate your help, and maybe the links will assist me further.

look under edit/save then save as morph preset. or material , or shader ect... theres a ton of options listed .

or you can save the whole completed character as a scene then re add as many times as you wish.

you can not do any poser files except for , export/cr2

Thanks, thats how I was trying to save the character to begin with. Studio just doesn't seem to recognize it when I'm searching for the folder. *shrugs, I've had it working correctly before, and figure it is something I did wrong. I usually do as you suggested, however, once you do a clean start of your computer and reinstall everything, your character is fubarred as it can't find any of the files. Well, thanks for the help anyhow. I'll just have to figure out what is going on.

The character preset is in a Studio native format, it needs to be saved to a Studio native library folder, or...   There is a trick to make it visible in a Poser native library folder, create  an empty text file with the same name as the character preset and change the extension to pz2.  You will know it worked if the file's icon has a little scroll in the corner.

ok you guys thanks for all the help, been busy with work or I would have responded sooner. Now when you say native folder, exactly what do you mean? can you give me a folder tree example? like daz/content/runtime?

SickenlySweete ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2013 at 7:56 PM

all ds native format files are in the my documents/daz/ my library/ under : content, people, props, scenes, shaders ect....

if its in a runtime (even if its located in the my library folder) then those are all poser files..not ds ones

you need to save your ds presets to the my library presets folder.
