what?

ghostman ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2013 at 1:36 PM

What are we looking at? Just a render of a street or is there something more to it?

Im sorry, I thought it looked pretty good for poser.

Perhaps Im getting to full of myself!

Well I can say from experience that Poser does WAY better then this once you learn how to tweak and set up the lights. You can get some really good realistic images from it.

well thanks for looking!

I think the street and the pavement looks terrific, can you show a render without the pole, fire hydrant and mailbox?

Would love to see that.

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2013 at 2:26 PM

maybe snazz it up with girl walking dog, standing under streetlite, if you got those items.

chris1972 ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2013 at 2:46 PM

must be a full moon!

Miss Nancy ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2013 at 4:43 PM

your render isn't suitable for a promo image.  if you want us (the customers) to buy your products, you also need to avoid language that could be interpreted as hostile or abusive.

chris1972 ( ) posted Thu, 21 March 2013 at 5:35 PM

Ok, I dont know what's in the air, it's just a render I ran to check things and I thought the fire hydrate looked neet in B&W, its not a promo image, its no big deal. I thought the textures and lighting were interesting nothing more. I have had many people say they enjoy seeing examples of my work as this project proceeds.

This is one of those occasions where text messages completely fail at communication.

Im the one who was insulted, not the other way around. It's amazing how people can see things in totally opposite ways.

When I posted this image, controversy was the last thing I expected. This forum and you Miss Nancy have been a big help to me and it is very much appreciated. I hope I have been of help to some along the way.

Chris

I was givin you a compliment!

Didnt know that it was the fire hydrant you wanted to show, if you were insulted by my post I apoligize.

Still think the pavement and street looks terrific, god job on those.

jonnybode, Im sorry if you thought my comments were directed towards you, they were not. I know you were giving me a compliment, thankyou.

This somehow became a post gonebad. I guess I'm the one who is at fault because I did'nt explain the image or put it into context properly.

Perhaps I've been working too much lately, not getting enough sleep, and one of my personal defects is at times taking myself to seriously.

I like it :)

I don't think anyone is being hostile - I think it's just one of those internet misunderstandings because all one has is text to go by and cannot see the poster's face during their comment, doesn't understand the context or perhaps doesn't understand the posters sense of humor. I think chris's intentions were harmless enough...he just wanted to show his render ;).

That's pretty cool.  I too do realistic rendering.  It's good to see Poser doing it for street environs.

The good news is that I understood the idea behind the post from the start and was impressed with how real it looked.

Bad news is most people that know me think I am a raving lunatic.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

The pavement does indeed look very nice and the ornate trash container is a nice touch. I'l like to see it fleshed out with something for the - are those windows or facing? and of course, urban detritus - unless the city has just hosed away the garbage and flotsam such a setting gathers.

It is a render with just a specular light which brings out the starkness of most shiny surface which we don't commonly see when using a light source with both diffuse and specular attributes active.  You can control that specularity by changing 1 light source to pure diffuse (turning the specular chip to black) then introducing a 2nd source with only the specular turned on and casting no shadows.  Since no additional lighting is added with this arrangement, you can individually modify the intensities for each light for some interesting effects.
