Subject: Recommended order for charcter workflow

Gator762 ( ) posted Wed, 27 March 2013 at 2:53 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 6:49 PM

About 5 or 6 pages into the newbie thread I discovered that it was much easier to pose the character before putting conforming clothes on.  There was so much info in the first two pages and linked tutorials I didn't come across that info.

I have PPro 2012, Victoria 4.2, Morphs++ for Victoria, Perfect Fixes 4.2 for Victoria.  A few other morphs I thought I needed but probably won't use much.

Is there a recommended order?  I have saved my morphed characters in the library for consistent characters and faster work.

For example:

Victoria (with perfect fix support)

Morphs

Other morphs/props like custom nails.

Save as customized character in library.

Part 2:

Load scene

Load custom character

Pose character

Inject Perfect Victoria 4.2 fixes

Add clothing (optional of course)

Add shoes (again optional)

Lighting

That order is correct, pretty much the workflow I follow.  Whenever you build up a scene, it is best to create the scene first without any characters.  Lighting is important at this point, so would like to get placement, intensity and tint set up as best as possible.  Rework any textures; Lores for distant objects, maybe no displacement maps but bump/normal may be necessary.  Save the scene.

Open a new scene and work the character in as you described.  Tweak and adjust.  Delete the lights and save the scene.

Open the original scene then import your characters.  Tweak and adjust again, then render.

Pretty much it.

Lores?

Low resolution ;). Low res meshes don't look so pretty up close but you can get away with them in the distance and it saves on scene weight.

Push him back into the scene and he becomes more usable as you can have loads of zombies if you want.

All the best.

This is my workflow.

  1. Load a complete fixed V4.
  2. Morphs
  3. Add clothing (use a copy morphs script, ask me if you want it, someone here made it, it's great).
  4. Pose
  5. Check for pokethrough
  6. Smooth joints.
  7. Profit

If I may.....

Most poser renders are total trash. But you've captured something here. When I first look at your render, I don't see the 3D, the lighting, the materials (A GOOD THING). Instead I see a scene with interesting evil characters. I don't see any anamolies, just a clean professional render that brings out the content.

IMO, the best renders are the ones where you don't think "oh it's so realistic, oh look at the materials", but instead you see the characters FIRST and the 3D graphics last.

You my friend are pro, 5/5.

Not really pertaining to the workflow methods of the original post, but just to say that LorenzoLores looks better if you enable smoothing on the figure. Here's the same pose with smoothing turned on for the figure and you can see a noticeable difference on his arm for example.
