dancineyes ( ) posted Mon, 17 September 2001 at 5:51 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 9:58 AM

I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on making Tears? I see them used in alot of the Galleries. I'm new the world of Poser and would love the help. Thank you!

Mash your fingertips into the slot of your CD-ROM drive repeatedly. That should bring tears to your eyes ;-) Seriously: If you've got Photoshop and want to get the effect by postwork look at this tutorial: http://www.renderosity.com/~archange/eyes.htm If you are in possession of Max and abhor postwork then have a look at NeilBlevins.com where he has many excellent tutorials on how to use procedural methods, including one on how to get wet looks. I found the first link in 15 seconds by doing a Google search on "Tears" and "Poser" If you do the same I am sure you will turn up others.

There was a free prop a long time ago named "Spew 4U" that was a morphing glob of goo and would probably work as an excellent tear- trouble is I don't remember who made it, perhaps someone else here will though. Or, you could try sitting a magnet on top of a sphere, pull the magnet in the +Y direction to elongate, and then scale the whole magnet using the plain "scale" dial to a much smaller size, which should pull the elongated part to a point for a classic teardrop shape. I never used magnets on Poser's primitives but I hear that actually doesn't work too well on some of them, like the cone. The one I used in my gallery images "Freedom's Sorrow" I just made in about 5 minutes using the RDS modeler. Or find an egg prop. Voila! Ready made tear. Or scale a sphere long in the Y direction, then angle it so that the top edge is actually into the face under the eye a little bit, which may or may not work, but either way you'll have tears by the time you're done messing with those primitives. =};-}>

There's one right here in Poser free stuff! Just go to the free stuff pages, and type in "tear" in the search box. I don't know what format etc. it is in, but perhaps you can use it? Heck, it's free, so what do you have to lose? (: genny

Hi Folks! 'eyes, the Spew4U prop is by CodeMan: thanx for mentioning it Thorne! It used to be in FreeStuff. I don't know if it still is, but I think he still uploads models to the Poser Props Guild, so start your search for him there. Hope this helps! Peter (Dr Zik)

heyas; i paint mine on in post in photoshop. on a new empty layer, i use white and the paintbrush to dab on some highlights, then use the smear tool to draw them out (and lessen their intensity), and then change the layer mode to one of the lighting modes, whichever looks best. (soft light, hard light, colour dodge, etc.) dalinise's look better than mine, though.

dalinise, what is the name of that piece of music in your intro? I love that music, gets my blood going. -Trav

Traveler .. It is Carmina Burrana by Orff ... Spelling might be a bit off but that is it. THink the first name is George but not positive.

Thank you Ghostofmacbeth for answering Trav's question, It is indeed Carmina Burara ( same for the spelling:-))). (mentioned it in the fine print beneath the first page of my site:-)) And it gets my blood running faster too! Thanks bloodsong but I pretty much use the same technique. Dalinise.

Here is another technique that I used for a test. Trying to so tears with no post work. This is a Bryce render since it has the extra channel to work with the specularity. It is much easier with psot but wanted to try without. It came from a challenge to make a sweaty person with no post. Later.

I can't find Spew 4U anymore. Renerosity finds Spurt by Codeman3D, but the download link is dead. Anyone know where Spurt and/or Spew now reside--a link perhaps?

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 29 September 2001 at 10:25 PM

He has sort of faded away a while ago. He has some stuff at BBay sttill and you might find a link or something there.

I just found codeman. He is alive and well. Here are links to his free stuff, where both Spurt and Spew are downloadable. He has some neat stuff for sale on one of the links from that page.

That's cool. I looked everywhere for spew4u with no luck! To the point where I just downloaded the tear from here and fought with the slide bars for a day or two. Finally figured it out though...I think. "The Day She cried too" in my gallery (link)is the end result of my tedious work...LOL.:) But thank you for letting us know. I will defiantly go check his site out.
