Hi Raine, got 4.6 working on this old clunker, so no probs. Not tried the I7 as yet.

I found it easier with the download manager installed.

Glitterati3D, you don't need to have Studio installed if you only want to use Dawn in Poser. Two versions, one for Poser, one for Studio. I only installed DS4.6 to check my freebies.

All the best.

Hi Steve,

so that means if I created a dress for dawn in ds that I could rig it in ds using weightmapping and then export it as a cr2 for use in Poser?

Will you be providing the ability to use the transfer utility to do this?

I understand that, Ken, thanks.  I'm just saying I won't use DS4 to rig anything for Dawn or anything else.  I don't have any version of DS4 installed and I won't.  The DS4 (all versions, all interfaces) actually cause intense pain in my eyes because of a medical condition.

If Dawn or any Hivewire product will require DS for development, I'll pass.  Using that software will speed the eventuality of my going blind and nothing is worth that.  I'll stick to Poser.

If the development is being done in DS, then she won't be Poser weight mapped.  Why would I use a "new" V4 with no weight mapping when I have Roxie, Rex and Miki4 who are all weight mapped and take advantage of Poser's features?

If DS suddenly has some feature to transfer POSER weight mapping, without DSON into a character, then this indicates there's a very cozy relationship between DAZ and Hivewire.

If DAWN is only available to Poser users through DSON, then I have no use for her anyway.

From what's been posted...Dawn won't require DSON or Studio.  She'll work natively in Poser.

I assume you'll be able to make things for her in Poser.  You just won't be able to make things for the DS version of Dawn.  Which is fine.  I'm sure there will also be people who support only the DS version of Dawn.

The frst post of this thread says it works natively in both Poser and Studio, Rose; hence two versions.

Also, Studio will indeed export Poser weight mapped figures; I've done it myself.  Genesis 1 and 2 work pretty well as Poser cr2s.....

The ones without the shoulder bulge are vendors who work like the dickens to eliminate them.  They're there.  They're default and they take a lot of work to get under control.

Here is what Steve said on page 9 quoting paul  "Dawn is converted from studio to poser with native weight map support for both programs. What developers need to know is if you create in studio just export as a cr2 and it works in poser. If you create in poser using the legacy or non-weight mapping method, it will work in studio automatically, so easy content creation either way. Folks may want to tweak mats since they render differently but they do work."

And On page 11 Paul states "Currently supported software is Poser 9+ and DAZ Studio 4.5+. This is due to the weight mapped figure support in both programs"

So I'd say, yeah There is 2 models and both will be weightmapped

I can say for a fact, no DSON required... I've looked at the .cr2... it's true, it's filled with 100% Poser weightmapping and the way she bends in each version... wow!  Being primarily a Poser user, I used Poser to create the clothing product for her, and then imported my Poser work into the Studio to create that version.

Quote - > Quote - Hi everyone!

So I want to take some time to address some of the concerns with developing content for Dawn.

I will eventually be posting this process in detail once things quite down for me, but the basics are pretty straight forward.

Currently supported software is Poser 9+ and DAZ Studio 4.5+. This is due to the weight mapped figure support in both programs

Poser to DAZ Studio Method:

Dev rig for Poser will be made available to Poser developers so rigging clothing will use the same processes that you are familiar with, whether that is setup room, manual cr2 editing etc... To make this same item available for DAZ Studio users, load Dawn and import clothing geometry into DAZ Studio 4.5 or later. Use the transfer utility to transfer rig and any morphs.

DAZ Studio to Poser Method:

Load Dawn in Studio 4.5 or later and load clothing conformed to her. Export .cr2 with the binary .pmd file option checked and Poser directory filled in. and done. (This method can also be used to create support morphs for your poser files, for the Poser to Studio conversion above.)

I know this is really general but you will see that technology in Poser and Studio has made things much easier for us to support. (“Por que no los dos?”)

I hope this answers SOME of those questions, lol,

Thanks,

Paul

Ah, well that leaves me out.  I don't have DS installed, I won't ever have it installed and I won't use it.

I like Roxie and Rex anyway, so my development work will be done in PP2014 for them and Miki4.

no worries, there is no requirement to support both programs, and with the diverse crowd here, partnerships for conversions would be another way to bring artists together.

They announced that each figure version, poser and ds respectively, is rigged in its appliction native format. I read so many things from them, i cant point you to the exact spot where they wrote it.

They probably had to rig it twice, once in each app to do that.

Sorry if I confused anyone. NO DSON required. DAZ Studio 4.5 and later has a working .cr2 exporter that converts triax weights to Poser weights. The bends are identical with subdivision off. Studios subdivision will smooth things further, and if you have Poser pro 2014, you can convert to single skin weight mapping and apply their new Pixar subdivision.

if you don't have the latest Poser version, then you can use smoothing in the render settings and Poser will do the rest on render.

:D

Laurie

A lot will depend on the tech details of how the figure is rigged. Newer technologies, like wm and fitting room make a few things easier. Hopefully the figure can take advantage of those. Im assuming it will, but i have not had my hands on her or talked to any of the developers, however, knowing good reputation of those involved, id besurprized if it didnt have a lot of advanced features.

It appears that HiveWire3D will also be a brokerage. If you google them, by google hits you will see that the website (still under wraps) is having store categories set up. My guess is some of the vendors will move over there.

If you are asking about my stuff, which I removed frm DAZ store about a year or so ago, I intended to transfer it all to RuntimeDNA, but once the school started (I went back to school to get Bachelors in Fine arts) I fell desperadely behind, and I only managed to get part of my content transfered (I wish I had helpers to finish the job).

Thank you LaurieA for this heads up! :)

It's cool to see another new and free human model on the rise. This takes me back to the days of Antonia and all of the community involvment... great times. As one of the content creators for Antonia, I'd like to give HiveWire 3D some pratical advice.

Why? Well, hopefully to help keep Dawn in the spotlight a little bit longer than Antonia. It would be easy to say the release of Genesis/V5 shoved Antonia out of the way but, in my opinion it was a lot more than that.

For starters, PLEASE don't release Dawn until she is 110% ready. Yeah, she will be free but, if she's not complete then she will probably fail. Why do I sound negative here? Probably because I've already witnessed the almost complete disappearance of (hands down) the best bending human model to ever load natively into Poser. And with a weight mapped version too. Yup, Antonia.

A few more points on Dawn:

  • have her beta tested to the point she "squeeels lahk a pig". I mean, test her in every way you can think of (IE: animation, walk cycles, proportion scaling, extreme bending/posing, morphing limits... and??).

  • try to make the the UV mapping as user friendly as possible (thinking of Victoria 2 or 3 here). The less seams, the better.

  • including visemes in the release (instead of later) would be a VERY good idea. As far as I know, Antonia is STILL speechless.

Mainly, avoid releasing several versions of her within 6 months of her first appearance. With Antonia, a lot of users were confused over which release did what and which UV map was the best (Antonia has 2) to use.

Bottom line, even with an officially released version, Antonia is still not complete to this day. I still use her because I enjoy the tinkering that is sometimes necessary to get her to work right. My guess is a lot of users would rather not have to deal with that... and I don't blame them.

Good luck with Dawn, HiveWire. I'm looking forward to rendering and animating her.

And... THANK YOU for offering her up for free!

Whoops they are gone!  They were 404 errors poping up as I checked and they were disappearing before my eys!  It was like watching "Langoliers" and watching the world cave in!!  This is disasterous!

Lisa, I hope you'll be up on the new site (or somewhere else) with your botanicals?

They're still there: https://www.daz3d.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=lisa%27s+botanicals

If you try to put many of them in the cart, you can not purchase the product (You'll get 404, not found). That usually happens between the time they sequester things and take them off the market, and completely take them out of the database.

The ones that are still available are the pieces that DAZ bought out from Lisa - it can be confusing because even when DAZ buys out them, they keep the vendor name on the product (and add their name to it as well).

Any more of these great vendors jump ship and I will too with my PC account.  Not good, but maybe change is what is needed to shake things up. Out of chaos, comes good things.

Yea, not a whole lot of time. Trying to put a few things (old and new) in the store during the summer.
Couple good things that'll come out of it, my stuff will get even better.... and... looks like I will have a small group of wickedly talented people (classmates) working on stuff, rather then just me .... eventually.  We've been working on stuff since the end of may when school year got out.

Some of the outfits that we are modeling and texturing, and are just about to go into rigging and morphing (for V4) I'm thinking about possibly switching gears and rigging them for Dawn. I should sign us up for beta testing Dawn, but I hate to take on more then I can handle. (like when I wa transferring the store, and didn't finish. That is bad)

Anyway, we better get back on topic of Dawn... I'm very excited! happy dance
