Subject: the Dawn of a new day...

Quote - Hi -- zigraphix here. :)

I'm willing to help Poser texture creators who use complex materials translate those into DS materials using Shader Mixer. What I'd like to do is make a toolkit of node networks and documentation that would make this process easier for creators going in either direction. The render engines are different and so the structure of the shaders is different, but many (if not all) of the same effects can be created in both, with just a little understanding of how the options work. :)

If anyone who currently makes Poser-only skin textures would like to contact me about conversion toolkits, please PM me here. We can practice on existing figures until a dev version of Dawn becomes available.

zigraphix

Can I add you to my vendor list for those who will be offering some support for Dawn. I am preparing an update for the list I posted on page 16. I will probably post it tomorrow. Just let me know.

Well in ds if you have the rigging tools, you can use the transfer tool to rig any obj as a conforming clothing item for any figure. If your mesh is shaped for the figure of course. So in theory you should be able to rig clothing for the new figure, especially if they are kind enough to supply a developers donor rig.

Autofitting I dont know about but .. I saw Philc's name go whizzing by at some point. Which means a pretty good bet that Wardrobe Wizard compatability is in the cards.  And of course theres the new Fitting room in poser2014 which is lovely and very useful.
"And, question to Lyrra, will we be getting kimono for this lovely?"

That I can't really say at this point ... the kimonos were a bear to rig the first time. If this figure is popular enough, and I dig my way out from under the pile of projects I have waiting ..maybe.  I think the new rigging options in pp2014 would make it considerably easier.  In the meantime I can say that the kimonos convert very nicely to dynamic cloth in poser.

Everyone else

I think now is a great time to start making wishes for clothing items- new and conversions.

yeah... i tried converting kimonos but it just doesn't work without re-rigging the sleeves separately and i don't know how to do that.  :(  whimper Cloth room doesn't help DS users, sadly.

But I will definitely be requesting kimono sets from you for Dawn :)

For the Poser chain smokers (sorry, no slight, it just made me smile) ... Hellboy has a "Simplified guide to Genesis content creation" - maybe this helps with the DS side of things?

And repeating my question from RDNA here, because there seem to be more Hivewire3D people here:

Question, because this will be a new store ...
How do you handle customer support? Will there be a 30days money back guarantee? Or partial refund if things go on sale inside 30days? Will you accept Paypal?

Quote - Not to dwell on genitals... [but..] If a vendor did create an a morph of the character that did include genital sculpting, as is the case with most high quality sculpted characters, would that not be allowed to be sold on the Hivewire site, even if it wasn't a primary feature of the product nor featured in previews etc?

Fair enough question. The answer is that we won't be selling any products of adult nature like that on the HiveWire 3D site, no.

HiveWire3D ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 1:52 AM

There was a question about some store policies, here you go:

Store policies: We will be accepting all major credit cards as well as Paypal starting day one, yes. We will issue refunds as in-store credit for any issues that arise in customer support. And yes, we'll honor pricing for a 30 day period, if things go on sale, etc.

shadowhawk2zero ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:08 AM

OK I have been watching this from the beginning and I am seriously impressed with the way Dawn looks and the fact that there is no Poser/DS strife. I do some minor texturing in Poser and once she comes out would be willing to do some free Sci-Fi textures for the body suit.

monkeycloud ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:11 AM · edited Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:14 AM

Exciting stuff... looking forward to seeing Dawn :-)

The pedigree of those contributing is pretty awesome it seems.

Sorry if this has already been covered. I've tried to read this whole thread! Are there some quality skin merchant resources in the pipeline already?

I'm keen to make and share characters. But there's no way I have time to make skin bases myself from scratch.

Will be interesting to compare with Roxie, in terms of Poser 10 / Pro 2014 readiness...

That's pretty dang sweet! That being the default texture I'm floored. Looks like you pulled off some magic on the shoulders, doesn't seem to be noticeable stretching of the texture map.

DisparateDreamer ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:25 AM

There's something weird about the eyelashes on Dawn... thought so before but more noticable in the newest image. There's too much space in the outer corner of the eye between the top and bottom lashes.

See this pic for example, or google any eye pic. The top and bottom eyelashes touch or nearly touch, by the outer corner of the eye. Mine not only touch, they often merge unless I curl my upper eyelashes up.  The large gap between the eyelashes on Dawn detracts, IMO, from her realism and beauty. Perhaps a morph to fix the eyelashes would be needed? I could look into that whenever Dawn is out. :) I have another couple of other things I'm starting to make for her, roughly anyway. :)

She's gorgeous though and hope I haven't stepped on any toes with my feedback on the eyelashes.

I'm thrilled and can't wait for her!!!

velvetsanity ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:30 AM

Very nice image. One thing, though.  Maybe it's just me, but the eyelashes seem too long and too thick to be natural.

You noticed that, huh?  That's one of the first things I looked at and thought the same thing.

meatSim ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:33 AM

thats a great render, especially as an out of the box character!

I'm getting more interested in this the more I see!

On that note, I start  my vacation from work on June 30th so I'm going to need you all to have her ready to go by then ;)

GeneralNutt ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:34 AM

It's funny how differently people see things. I loved the eye lashes when I seen them.

sarsa ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:39 AM

I will take responsibility on the lashes...I think it's a personal preference...I like the long lashes.  I dialed her lash long morph all the way up to make them long. I have other renders too with out them mascara commercial long  ;)  lol

tparo ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:39 AM · edited Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:41 AM

That is a lovely render.

You say the texture is a merchant resource will we be able to make freestuff with it?

For me the eyelashes have a 1960's feel to them which I like.

DreamWeaver_Designs ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:44 AM

Oh boy!

Yes I have been lurking this whole thread and have to say I am loving the look of Dawn.

I would love to put my hand up and say I will make things for her,(characters and clothing textures), but RL is a bit crazy so I don't know if I will have any time :(

sarsa ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:45 AM

I will have to check with the guys about the freestuff with it.....I do know that all involved want the community to be pleased...so, before I inquire about it....would this be a preferable option?  To make free characters with the resource?

For me yes - I've dabbled in textures for a while now but never felt confident enough to release them, I still don't feel anywhere near ready enough to do anything for sale.

Thanks

GeneralNutt ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:49 AM

The more I study the image the more I like what I see. The neck is really well done, and the ears, well look like ears.

DisparateDreamer ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 2:50 AM

No, i love the long eyelashes, mascara or not. It's the gap between the upper and lower lashes. Google eye, or eye lashes. Almost always, curled or not curled, long or not, mascara or not, the eyelashes meet at the furthest corner of the eye. That's what I'm pointing out.

Would it be possible to see a side-by-side comparison rendered in each app?

Can I ask who made the bikini?

HiveWireChris ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 3:44 AM

Sarsa prefers to render in Poser. This is a Poser render.

The lashes are my fault, not Sarsa's. If the geometry needs to be closer in the corners, that is on me. We'll look into it.

Concerning length of time a purchase stays in account. Not sure of time frame. Don't think there is one. But Eric and Steve would know better. Do believe you have 4 tries at a download of any given product that is in account.

Love this default Dawn though. Sarsa did some of her magic tweaking on the mesh and the rest of us liked it (actually loved it) so much we decided to have her final look (longer lashes and all) integrated into a new default look. So Paul (etujedi) has been busy over this weekend redueing another release candidate. But we will still be adding a few more things in tomorrow (okay, well today, after we wake up).

Love to all. Night.

HiveWireChris ( ) posted Mon, 24 June 2013 at 3:46 AM

I made bikini. If it sucks, it's mine. Hah.

I've been able to make several other clothing items for her that have not been shown yet. Those items are still being packaged up, or need to be.

I hope we don't have to buy a download extension!

And if there is a download limit, I hope it is more than 4 - servers and internet connections are sometimes playing up and you have to try more times to get a file.

WOW!!!!!!

See, things can make me still say that!!! Lol.

Love that pic and it's deafault Dawn!!!!!!! Absolutly amazing work.

A BIG BIG please to Sarsa on the making freebies option, I asked a while back about that and for people like me, who like doing freebies, it would be an amazing thing.

Very rare these days I ask for anything, but that would make my day if it came off.

Nice to hear about the bodysuit, so many things I can do with one of those.

Getting in on the lashes, I like long lashes!!

The fun thing is, when I look at a skin texture, the first thing, even if it is a total nude, I look at the eyes. If the eyes are right, then I go to the lashes, then the rest.

That promo was worth waiting for. Not a pin up style, a normal everyday female, in a normal pose, having fun. Well done on that Sarsa!!!

All the best.

Yea, just push some poly's to the corner, so they almost touch the skin, if they are not there already.
What we're seeing could also be the texturing and how the transmap is set up rather then polys.

She is looking ADORABLE!
